Battlefront

By 2P51, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

So looking forward to playing, Especially to find out what happens before Ep. VII. :D

That looks absolutely amazing.

I have to admit I was hoping for a cool cinematic but I was floored by it since it was game engine footage.

I'm not sold (first two BFs were nice, but nothing I hadn't seem a million times by that point) however I will be following in this in the hopes I'm totally wrong and it turns out to be something special...

I would have liked to see an actual match, rather than just a trailer (granted, in engine) and a press preview, but it is what it is. At least it looks pretty, and the Battle of Jakku DLC will be something to look forward to.

Reading about this previously it seems 1st-Person was going to be the primary with 3rd-Person as a possible option. You really can't tell from this video since most of it was done from an external cam view, not a player view. We do see a snowspeeder first person view (out of the cockpit), but then we see what appears to be an X-wing in 3rd-person view. I didn't see anything that appeared to be from the player's view (3rd or 1st) when on foot. But, the flying craft suggests they will at least have an option of 1st OR 3rd. I personally want 1st-person view but I know there are camps on both sides. 1st person on foot 1st or 3rd when in a vehicle? That is what Battlefield does which is more of the predecessor game engine to this game then the old Battlefront.

ETA - Personally my most anticipated game in years. Star Wars nut and Battlefield series is my favorite shooter. I for one hope it IS Battlefield meets Star Wars. I want to be able to pilot a snowspeeder while another player mans the harpoon gun....or 2 players pilot the AT-AT while a squad of other players can ride in the back which has a speeder bike spawn point.

ETA2 - I DIDN'T SCROLL DOWN! :)

Pilot........the Millennium Falcon and more of your favorite vehicles in exhilarating aerial combat.

I may have to take a vacation for a week if one player pilots and 2 others can gun!

Seamlessly swap between 1st person and 3rd person perspectives.

...and perfect. Both types of players will be happy.

Interesting choice of words, 'aerial'. I' heard a rumour there won't be any space combat in the game (at launch, at least)... can anyone confirm?

I can confirm that's what they claim, yeah. Only land(ish) battles on Hoth, Endor, Tatooine, and Sullust. I'm guessing the number of maps/play area size per world is going to be considerable, though.

Looks like you can play solo too...

Looks like a good Age of Rebellion campaign addition. ;)

Previous Battlefield games highly integrated vehicle and ground troop fighting. The maps were made to include something important to do for infantry, ground vehicles, and air vehicles. I'm guessing this is why the first maps will be above the surface of a world. A deep space battle might be boring and make it hard to integrate infantry or ground vehicles like an AT-ST or Snowspeeder. Perhaps some "Starfighter Only" maps will be released later? Or, a battle in space between a Star Destroyer and a Calamari Cruiser with starfighter battles while troops try to board and fight on each others' ships? We've seen exactly that (battling aircraft carriers) in Battlefield which is known for releasing LOTS of additional maps after the initial release. If you look at Battlefield 4, the original maps ended up being only the introduction to the game. Each new release gave several more maps and more vehicles. If DICE does the same with this game what we see at release will pale compared with what will be available a year later after a few expansions have been released.

Honestly what excited me most here was the presence of a Sullustan in the battle. Previous iterations of this game (and any Star Wars game, for that matter) has always depicted the Galactic Civil War as waves of Imperial humans clashing with waves of Rebel humans. I'm stoked about the idea of other aliens being represented in the Rebellion.

This might be the thing that convinces me to finally pick up a console.

Here's hoping. Or, if it turns out some other company is working an a really in-depth 'X-Wing Alliance'-esque video game, then I wouldn't mind its omission here. Either way, I'm in!

Ishi Tib too.

Though I've got a bad feeling it will be... "Preorder from Big Bobs House o' Ribs to unlock the Ithorian!"

The only pre-order bonuses I've found are for the Deluxe Edition:

Purchase the Star Wars™ Battlefront™ Deluxe Edition and get the base game plus five exciting in-game items

• Han Solo’s Blaster (instant access)

• Ion Detonator (instant access)

• MPL Ion Torpedo (instant access)

• Ion Shock (exclusive emote)

• Victory (exclusive emote)

Nothing about races.

One of the release maps is on Sullust and we see a Sullustan modeled in the trailer, so there is hope for alien races. Previous DICE games have allowed lots of customization of what your character and vehicles look like. I wouldn't think they would miss the opportunity to have you be able to work your way up to new "skins".

On the one hand, awesome-looking visuals and I've no doubt the moment-to-moment gameplay will be good, but no campaign? No space battles? Four maps? Of course, more will be released later (with the customary price tag) to beef up the playlist a little, but I worry that Battlefront has a distinctly Titanfall-esque lack of initial content that we'll be expected to pay a premium for in order to bolster. If it's truly great, then I'll get the inevitable GOTY or complete edition. Or that rumoured Star Wars rpg...

If they do as earlier DICE products have done, there is already a schedule of release for more maps. Within a month I predict there will be an expansion to download for $10 to $20. If you can wait, these sometimes later become free. If you can't because you completely love the game, then I would purchase the inevitable Premium account for $40 or so that will give you every expansion that comes out. Again, only if Battlefront follows the pattern of earlier DICE Battlefield products. Battlefield 4 had 5 or so expansions, so Premium is the cheap way to go if you love the game.

I don't mind the releases. It keeps the game fresh with a new expansion every couple months. Something new to do with new maps, vehicles, guns.

That all depends on if the expansion is actually "newly developed," not something they deliberately decided to omit content in order to charge for it later. It's underhanded but it's a business model that seems to work well enough.
