A few questions after first game

By treybert, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

I just wanted to make sure I have the rules down right to a few questions I couldn't find the answer to.

Objectives:

When the card refers to 'the first player' and the 'second player', is the first player the one with initiative?

Most Wanted:

When a squad is attacking the objective ship, does that squad roll an extra die as well?

Crits:

When a ship attacks a squad, do crits essentially do nothing? as in no damage period.

Overlapping ships:

When a ship overlaps, I understand that you temporarily reduce speed. Does this mean the player is free to readjust their template? or just go down the template until it fits using the existing yaw clicks?

Kissing ships:

If 2 ships end up running head first into each other at slow speeds where the only way either can get out would be to increase speed, would they continue to deal 1 damage to each ship, each time each ship activates?

1.) yes (rules guide, pg 6, "first player" - "The first player is the player with initiative"

2.) I would think so, as the card says while attacking and "the attacker." So anything that attacks would get the benefit.

3.) When a ship overlaps another ship, reduce speed by one and try to execute the maneuver again. Keep doing so until you can finish the maneuver you selected, or you are at speed 0. Even at speed 0, you still call it a maneuver and resolve any effects that go with it. It doesn't allow you to change the yaw value at any point after you select a maneuver, just speed.

4.) yup. They keep grinding until one is dead or can increase speed enough to clear the other, basically. So be careful when trying to play chicken with a victory :P

edit: Note, when overlapping, speed dial does not change. So if you're at speed 3 when you hit, and have to reduce to speed two temporarily, you're still at speed three the next time you try to move.

Thanks. It was pretty funny. The 2 colliding ships were actually the frigate and the corvette.

What speed were they going? You couldn't get the Corvette clear with a navigation dial on the next turn?

The frigate was at 3, the Corvette at 2. The corvette moved first, then the frigate ran into it.

The next round, my opponent mis-judged if 2 would clear it (first game and all). Then I landed a crit on the frigate with the SD and lowered the frigate's speed to 2.

Most Wanted:

Squadrons do not get a benefit from most wanted. Only one ship per side is given an Objective Token and only an Objective Token gives a bonus to the first attack of that ship.

Crits:

"squadrons suffer damage equal to the number of hit icons only, they ignore critical icons" (page 15 Learn to play)

I think you got your objectives confused. Perhaps you are thinking of "Opening Salvo"?

Yup just had a discussion about those two lol, edited my post. That's what I get for not reading the whole card before I open my mouth.
