Haedrin's repaints

By Haedrin, in X-Wing

Following the current trend I've decided to put all my repaints into a single thread.

(Most of the first few are already posted elsewhere on these forums.)

Blue Squadron. Thanks have to go out to Raynuk for the rebel symbol on the middle ship's wing, I saw his and had to steal the idea.

Absolutely loved the Monarch Starviper that Kell553 had painted for his daughter. Had to do one for my daughter when she started playing x-wing. Thanks Kell for the amazing idea.Monarch_zpsy6tz9qkh.jpg

Wow! These are really good! I especially like the HWK-290 though, as it's my favorite ship and all.

Once I get started (inevitably... Hopefully... One of these days) I may have to try a similar base coat for the HWK. Thanks for sharing!

The HWK looks similar to how I'm doing one of my HWK's in Blue and Silver. I'm using silver for the beak though. Great job all around!

Obligatory decloaking Phantom.

Two Z95's done. Not sure why but this is the 1st x-wing mini that I did not enjoy painting. Right from the start nothing seemed to go to plan.

That bomber is amazing!

Great work, bold and in your face with style, The bomber looks awesome, ☼

The Headhunters look like they should be piloted by Cpt America. The butterfly starviper is great though.

Bah, don't talk about those **** headhunters.

And yeah the butterfly is great,Kell is a genius for coming up with that.

Wow, I love those!

Yours are the best repaints I've seen. Have you considered doing a step by step of your process?

Those A-wings are really cool! Nice work!

Heh, thanks for the compliment but some of the painters on this forum are light years ahead of me.

In terms of my process I keep it very, very simple (if i try anything fancy it never works):

1. Base coat my colours (directly over the factory paint)

2. Black paint all the detail lines.

3. Nuln oil the whole ship.

4. Highlight with my base colours.

5. Lighten my base colours a couple of shades and highlight again.

Not going to win any painting competitions but it gets the ships looking really nice on the table.

these almost look photoshopped. Not accusing. I'm just saying. They have this weird but amazing comic book look.

How did you get the paints to be that bold? What paints are they? GW?

You're selling yourself short. Your ships have a unique style and that blacklining must look amazing on the table.

I do 'shop' my photos. All of them are put onto a pure white background and if the image i see on screen doesn't match the RL mini I kick the brightness up 10 points or so.

eg. top image is untouched but looks dull next to the mini, bottom image (originally posted) has been brightened and looks about right on my monitor.

ahh you sly dog.

What paints do you use? How do you get such bright popping colors?

I use GW paints. They've always been bright paints but their 'layer' paints that i've just started using this year seem excessively so.

I end up having to try to dull them on my other miniatures but I like the extra brightness on the x-wing minis.
