Aftermath Questions

By JLeisten, in Imperial Assault Campaign

Longtime gamer here, I just got this game and I'm interested in running some Campaigns. I have a few questions with the Aftermath mission.

1. The first time the door opens, the event "Fortified" happens. When this happens, reserve figures are deployed. Do these newly deployed figures get to activate (act?) before the round ends? (I'm thinking yes).

2. Open Groups are listed as "none". If the Imperial Officer is defeated, does the deployment card go to my hand? If so, I could spend threat to deploy the Imperial Officer again during the Status Phase. Correct?

3. Are Deployment or Reinforcement figures are always placed on the green point, even if the yellow or red points have been used?

1) Yes. You deploy these cards to the table in the ready position. You can now activate them as normal. There are some missions that will say the cards are deployed exhausted. You won't get to activate those units until the next round when everything is readied.

2) Correct. Any non-unique group is defeated the card goes back to your hand so you could redeploy at a later time.

3) The mission guide will tell you when a deployment point is active. Not all points become active in Aftermath.

Check out Deployment in the RRG pg 11.

Thanks!

Yeah, after more researching, I think the answer to question #3 is that you can only deploy/reinforce on the green points.

Deployment rules says, Green deployment points are active at the start of each mission. Red, blue, and yellow deployment points are no
t active until specified by the mission rules, even if another rule allows a one-time deployment to any of those points.

Looking through other missions, I found one on page 17 (A Simple Task) that specifically says, "The red deployment points are now active."

So, concerning Aftermath, even if I deploy my reserves to the yellow and red points one time does not make them active to deploy during the Status Phase. The mission rules never say they become active.

The Red point becomes active if you lock the door

Oh yeah! That's one of the options of the Lockdown event. Good catch.

How much of the story mission do you tell the players? I'm not entirely sure what parts of the mission setups are private to the imp player

Pretty much everything is read out loud except for when the Imperial player chooses one of a number of effects - and just reads the chosen effect.

Right, but where do you stop reading and when? For example, we just finished Fly Solo and they were a little irritated with me because I wouldn't tell them how the mission ends or time limits or if they could be wounded. I kept saying "pay careful attention to the plot of the mission, but right now your objective is to get to the back door and open it before the end of round 3 and the story will progress.

Was I supposed to tell them more?

No - you played it correctly. You informed them that : "The mission will progress when the door to the Back Room opens, or at the end of round 3"

That is all they need to know at that point. That is their mission.

Great, I thought so, thanks. It went real bad for them. They brought Luke and lost him in the start of round 2. That was a lot of free threat that they never recovered from.
