A photo someone took and tweeted at Star Wars Celebration:

The X-Wing is an Incom T-70. The Rebels are the Resistance now, and the Empire is the First Order now.

very interesting! great find!
The First Order?
The first order definitely seems like it refers to KOTOR-era Sith. The Darth Revan/Sithtrooper armor makes even more sense now.
Sounds like both sides rebranded themselves sometime after Endor. So that means no more Empire but no New Republic either.
Could be that someone dug up some old Sith armor and Saber and declared themselves the Lord of a new Sith empire.

This is immediately what I thought when I read it too
long live the empire. =(
Was it ever canon that the Empire was called the New Order? Or was that just an EU thing, or just a somewhere in my brain thing?
Palpaptine's Empire was called the New Order.

The First Order seems an extension of that.
Its considered canon, the term New Order is used in Star Wars Rebels. (which is canon)

After Vader/Emperor's death, I believe Luke tried to balance the force by becoming both Jedi and Sith, but old dark-side initiates from the "New Order" threw off balance of the force and Luke had to begin training new Jedi. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
Is it just me, or does "Rebellion" -> "Resistance" sounds like a bit of a...downgrade?

Maybe they're losing the war......
Not liking this so much. Things don't get named "first" or "one" until there is a second. Calling something the "first order" implies that there have been additional orders since then, but that text is in the present tense.
Unless maybe the "empire" has moved on in some fashion and these guys are a splinter group trying to get back to the empire's roots?
Just found this and posted it in the "New TIE Fighter!!!!" thread, but it seems appropos...

Judging by the fact that the Empire even still exists after Ep.6, I think they're doing just fine.

Are you sure? All I saw was lots of shiny stormtroopers and big scary ships and bad angry Jedis. Plus, it looks like Chewbacca hasnt had a grooming in a while. ![]()

Han is old. He's probably not grooming Chewy anymore. His hair is matted and his nails have grown so long that they curl under his feet.

That's sort of the vibe I'm getting.
Certainly, nobody is going to call themselves the "Resistance" if they have their own galactic government up and running and keeping the peace.
OTOH, the "First Order" definitely sounds like a splinter group, too.
Maybe the Empire kept trudging on, losing control over system after system but attempting to keep it, and the First Order is some Sith-style attempt to unify it?

So, so, so very true!
First Lady?
The Rebels are the Resistance now, and the Empire is the First Order now.
This has huge implications for our favourite game!
Could we be looking at having the one game with different time periods (as Imperial Assault is designed to be), or will we be looking at a separate new game?
E-wings are almost a different era than say....Z-95s.
Plus, if the Falcon is still around who says old fighters still aren't?
I suppose this kills "the Empire loses everything at Endor" thing. Looks like the Empire got their game together after Endor.

Is your favorite game The Resistance, too? ![]()
