What?! No white TIE fighters? (Ep.7 Tr.2)

By gabe69velasquez, in X-Wing

So no one is interested in painting their TIE fighters
with white panels like the episode 7 trailer #2 TIE fighters?
I was just curious who was considering it or otherwise tempted. 16547706584_74d2e9fabf_o.jpg

I just came here to make this exact topic!

Im totally going to do it.

If I wasn't playing armada tonight, I know exactly what I'd be doing

I actually suggested painting vader's tie in negative like that a few months ago.

And when the first trailer hit, there was a guy on here who had already done this to his ties and we commented on the fact that Jar jar Abrams copied him for the movie.

Instead of repainting all of my ties, I was just tempted to add a "White Stop" move to the dials of my ties to mimmick the hovering tie in the trailer ;-)

I'm pretty sure the repulsors need gravity to repulse against. ;)

Close up.

I'm pretty sure that the front glass dome has a chrome frame as well.

He needs to have something for the flares to reflect off.

Hows this?

Was just logging on to see if anyone else got inspired. I know the lines arent perfect, but hey its a first attempt and needs a bit more work. Black is always a pain as well to get to look right.

Black is a pain, and the supports on the wings are a pain by themselves to paint. I started doing mine a little too quickly and had to stop. So for now I just did the black, gonna let that dry then tackle the white panels.

Then probably have to touch up the black again. <_<

Ewwwww... Ugly as sin.

So cool you were the first to post one done

Brotherchaplain

I plan to do 1 or more my self

Sorry for the late reply, but this is what Forgottenlore was talking about :

I painted mine in pale grey, not white, but that was done back in november, and I added the blue lines to add personality to each vessel.

My painted fleet is now 3 Fighters, 3 Defenders, 2 Interceptors, 1 Bomber, 1 Phantom, 1 Shuttle, with 1 Advanced, 2 Fighters on the way..

I've painted one of my TIEs like this.

Already posted in my repaint thread but here it is again!

One of them has got to be the negative.

Flawless & Amazing

I dunno, I'm too much of a classicist and Imperial navy fan to really get around these white-winged TIE Fighters.

I mean they're supposed to be solar panels or something right? So instead of absorbing black you have reflective white for... what?

Though I'm wondering now if those plates are made of stormtrooper armor.

Also... the hangar-shooting TIE seems to be a different variant than the standard TIEs for whatever it's worth. It's attacking with a belly turret, and the cockpit glass is a horizontal slat than the circle window.

Well I might as well toss mine in here too.

I like the lighter color adding contrast to the wings, but for solar power, black is far more efficient. You wouldn't want to reflect any light you could capture. Props to any artist who corrects the TIE lasers to a green color.

I have seen some bronze TIE panels with gold highlights that looked amazing in a FB group for Xwing sale and trade. I found it inspirational, almost steampunk-y. I saved it in case I wanted a bronze squad sometime (attached).

I'm almost out of time here at work but I can post my minor TIE mods later today. I made them darker, dirtier, have green lasers, and red ion engines. I'm considering silver on the wing edges, around the cockpit, around rear ionization chamber (that looks like a main rocket/thrust engine) and entry hatch.

Is there a special paint people use for chrome, or just a good metallic silver?

Hmm thought about doing one of my TIEs white even before I saw this. Not a negative though, I fancy doing one similar to the shuttle. Was going to use it for Howlrunner.

I think the prequels kind of messed with the idea that they're solar panels, as the TIE's predecessors (Sith Infiltrator, Eta-2 Actis "Jedi" interceptor, V-wing) utilized similar panels as radiators for dumping excess heat built up by their power systems. So if they're running with the prequels, the white or silver panels make sense.

In any case, I might sub silver for white and paint any TIEs I end up with in the First Order scheme - I've got at least one of Mel's TIE Avengers on order (TIE Avenger = favorite TIE) that I'll need to paint.

I did up my swarm plus one of my Interceptors.
