TFA trailer #2
SO MUCH AWESOME!
That's better! This ones got me much more excited.
And this is why I am thankful Disney told George to go away when he said he had ideas for episode 7
...Y'know, one of the things that didn't really need 'improving' from the original trilogy were the costume and vehicle designs.
I'm not sure who thought they could top the timeless old ILM stuff, but they didn't manage to pull it off, in my opinion. Oh well.
Just WOW! lovely.
Absolutely fantastic. The downed ISD is already gracing my desktop as the new wallpaper.

How can you hate on this? It looks fantastic and a natural progression of the elements
I'm thinking the Empire ship and costume designs are more around the mentality of a fanatic cell rather than an 'order-keeping' authority.

Sorry; the intent wasn't to hate on it. I don't think it looks bad.
The new designs lack the sense of identity and encompassing style that ILM's designs had; for example, the stormtrooper costumes look fine - but they also look generic. They could be in any forgettable sci fi setting. Even the clone trooper costumes, which I find loathesome, carry more identity than the costumes in the trailer.
What ILM achieved in the 70s with it's years of hard work (it was not an 'accident', as some people like to say - the difference between the the old trilogy and the new prequels is just the amount of effort & labor that went into each) is timeless and didn't require an 'update' from some hot shot who thinks they're better than the best that have ever been in the business, and the pieces look worse for it, (again,in my opinion - and again, that's not to say it looks bad. It doesn't).
Woot woot,
too bad the film is on a boat shipping like my raider

It is not! Stop it!

These trailers kinda have me hoping that not all of the stormtroopers look identical AND symmetrical. The costumes need to have character too.
I can sympathize with this. Part of what made the ILM stuff awesome, apart from the models and costumes themselves, was the asymmetry that was found throughout everything. No two X-wings were the same, whether it was paint or panels that were mismatched or the random Stormtroopers that had individually painted and weathered uniforms. These trailers kinda have me hoping that not all of the stormtroopers look identical AND symmetrical. The costumes need to have character too.
There's also the fact that the ILM designs have very few 'void' elements. They are not particularly ergonomic or realistic, but they do look like each different element performs some important function and isn't merely decorative. Contrast the jaw portion of the ILM stormtrooper helmets with those in the trailer, for example: the former looks like some kind of functional apparatus, whereas the new ones are just clean & ornamental. Which there is nothing wrong with, of course, but it moves the overall look away from industrial design.
The design work is terrible. the 'new' X wing is dubious as heck and the stormtroopers are just boring. I wont mention (though obviously i am) the soccer droid and cross hilt light sabre. Also if an ISD crashed that hard into the ground it would be like Armageddon and Deep impact. A small detail but an annoying one to me. That and the fakiness fo the backgrounds. Matte paintings looked better.
The days of Cantwell Johnston, McQuarrie and Johnson are sadly over. But despite everything this trailer looked better than the first. and there seemed to be no lens flare which is a good sign
Oh and the new ISD looks like crap but i will reserve final judgment until more views are available
Edited by GosricMaybe that once was a nice fertile planet full of forrests and cities... and then the SSD crashed into it! I wonder if the ship could survive the impact if it's forward shields were still active.
So far i like the new designs somehow stay closer to the originals than the prequels did.
One thing i wish they had done was age chewbaca a little..
The girl reminds me a LOT of Padme. I'm guessing that's deliberate...
Must have more falcon...
Closer than the prequels that is true. but in a way that makes it worse. Those wings on the T-70 ouch

Your vision of the star wars universe is bleak and negative. And I'm glad I'm not apart of it.

So, a fan of the Endor Apocalypse???
Personally, I love the new designs. Great evolutions of classics.

and an old school x-wing in the foreground
