Link to the new Teaser

By melminiatures, in X-Wing

or maybe the ones he found and trained turned evil or were hunted down by this *new* Empire?

Either way, that blows a whole lot of EU out of the water. But with the new logo, I get the feeling that this new Empire is remnant of the old and not likely able to hunt down Jedi like the old Empire did.

Welllllllll.....first off JJ Abrams has said that the new trilogy was essentially ignoring the EU. He also said that some EU was used for 'inspiration'. Thats why nearly all EU books/comics etc are now called "Legends", basically downgrading it to almost a what-if kind of thing.

It's also been rumored that the Chrome trooper you see in the teaser is an Inquisitor or Knight of some kind. possibly with the exact task of killing Jedi and keeping the Rebels weakened. Its clear that in 30 years since Endor, the Rebels (New Republic??) has not been able to win the peace. That new teaser gives us some indications as to why.

that's very possible, but if so... That may mean that Luke never found any new Jedi, that means no Jedi Academy, no New Jedi Order, ect. It doesn't have to, but with the title and all it sorta hints at that.

Also it's interesting that when Han Chewie are on the falcon, that they have guns drawn. Like they're expecting a fight.

Perhaps the Falcon belongs to someone else and they're stealing it back?

Well, as a spoiler...

Some information has leaked on that. Apparently, Rey and Finn start the movie on the desert planet and get in trouble, needing to flee it. So they go to steal a starship, and end up finding the Millennium Falcon in a junkyard.

So that's how that ship gets back into circulation in the series. No idea what context has Han and Chewie later come across it.

I also saw a BSG-style zoom-in in one shot of the TIE vs. MF scene

?? I'm not following. Can you expand a little on this?

Actually, the vibe I am getting from this is that things have been peaceful for the interim, but now something has happened, a new sith/dark Jedi/big bad has arisen and is ressurecting the empire, not that there has been a constant state of galactic war for 30 years.

1:27 in the trailer, when the Falcon enters the exhaust of the super star destroyer, the camera zooms in on the battle. The first time I've seen that was in Battlestar Galactica.

Fairly sure that's the back end of the junked ISD at the start.

EDIT: You're right, that IS an SSD's back end. Top down in the dirt. (the changes to the post-Yavin canon suggests strongly that the Executor is NOT the first of its class so it's probably not an Executor class any more)

Tatooine's picked up a major starship graveyard.

Its actually not Tatooine, its Jakoob(?). Sorce- JJ Abrams

Specifically, Jakku.

Sure, but no one knows just how much EU/Legends is being written off. By the looks of that trailer, a lot of it is.

Actually it isn't. That ISD in the opening has clearly been there for years, and is a fairly big hint at how the Empire as faired without the Emperor. Plus the new logo the Sith has, also is a pretty strong hint that the Empire is no more.

At the Star Wars Celebration Live Panel, JJ Abrams confirmed that the story is set "about 30 years" after Return of the Jedi.

Other sources have hinted that in that period it was a time of great conflict and many battles with neither side able to truly secure a victory.

There is upcoming Novel (September 2015) called Star Wars Aftermath that will tell the tale of that period before Episode VII.

The subtitle to that novel says "The war is not over"

Makes sense.

My father has it. Has.

Oh no. Oh no no no.

Yes.

Callin it now: I think Luke fell to the dark side thanks to his daddy's ghost. Just saiyan.

I don't think the Empire just died off after Endor. But what we see in that trailer isn't the same Empire that Palpatine ran either.

Ah I see and I do recall BSG doing this a fair amount.

And not-Revan is pretty **** sweet too.

I see what you did there, "Chika bawan Chika bawan" ;)

Not to be "that guy" , but Firefly did it first. The Serenity was also snuck into the pilot of BSG, so its an obvious nod to that show. I'm guessing they shared some animators/directors as well.

It's ok to be "that guy", but the zoom-in is more evocative of BSG for me. I remember Firefly for a lot of other things.

I'm just glad that trend has continued. Sharp zooms are staples of both westerns and space-operas. BSG/Firefly/SW are clearly inspired by both.

I liked that the trailer didn't overdo it. It had the zoom in, but it also had the classic shuttle-approaching-star-destroyer shot which was fixed.

Pssh, that is clearly Endor, post holocaust. ;)

Is Chewy CGI? Hope not ;)

Is Chewy CGI? Hope not ;)

Hell no. They even used the same actor(Peter Mayhew)

I question how much Mayhew actually did. He is not exactly in great shape.

I'm liking the looks of things, but something about that X-wing pilot is rubbing me the wrong way. Seems too excitable and undisciplined to be in a starfighter cockpit. If he is hooting and hollering about getting close to water, what is he going to do in combat?

I think it's more likely that he's either hyping himself up for an imminent battle or celebrating the return from a victory.

That was the vibe I got too - plus there's a crashed T65 X-Wing in the foreground of the same shot (am I the only person who has spotted this?) - suggesting that there are remnants of a conflict that has been over for some time

That, and a downed SSD. So, something BIG happened over Jakoob.
