New TIE Fighters!

it's a metal box on four wheels, not seeing much progress there.

Anybody else love the new color scheme? I think it looks fantastic and menacing.

I like that it's in tune with the stormtrooper armor.

Hey, there is no 5.0 in that picture. /barf

Almost sure it's shooting backwards. The other Ties in the teaser have the regular cannons in the usual positions.

You can also make out the other ships in the background, they do look like troop transports (the one on the left has the hatch open).

Solved. This TIE is not shooting backwards. It's a different model, and that's probably the front of it. You can see its viewport. Probably a prototype, some sort of heavy TIE, or maybe the big bad's personal fighter.

The proof? Look at the wings. See the massive cog things?

The normal TIEs don't have them.

Based on its size relative to the other TIEs and the Stormtroopers, my first thought was that it was unmanned. Some kind of TIE Drone.

That's because the 5.0 is Detroit's equivalent of the Star Viper. Ugly as sin, and just doesn't fit the universe :P

I'm going to go ahead and start calling the new type of fighter the 'TIE: Cog'

And a TIE fighter's a ball with two panels strapped to it.

We don't see the length of the pod. Could be a tail gunner with a view port.

Looks like the new X-wings look more like the original concept x-wings then the original x-wings.

I *was* almost thinking that. Especially given the close-up of the fighter's rear in the "crashed" concept art...it definitely looks a bit like a viewport.

Almost.

Not sure if it's long enough to be a dedicated 'gunner' seat, but if the thing is being used by our hero characters in an escape (seems like, from the trailer), then one would presume it would be.

Ya think?

That would follow the trend from rebels. One of the main characters is based directly off an old concept art for Chewbacca.

Eww. that tie back has a butt that isn't nearly as raiderific as i'd like to see.

Actually - as cool as it looks (and it does)...

How will they look in space? Unless any space battles in the movie occur with nebulae as a backdrop, they're going to be really hard to see clearly.

In a universe where eyesight is used in dogfights this makes sense (they're harder to "see"), but from a cinematic viewpoint ... it's a strange choice.

From a game view point, I'm not sure how good it will look either against a black play surface...

(And I believe they're not the only 'black' ships in the new movie either)

Ugh, i dont like the new color scehe, lots of blue grey, black and RED. Black and red are so cliche, guh. not even like lightsaber and darth vader. any sort of black and red squadron paint scehems been done to death. =/

how about orange?? =/

Also, thats true. Also, sometimes to be intimidating you want to be seen. Esp since ties arent exactly stealthy. Leave that for the firesprays!!

also that lightsaber still looks stupid and cliche and antichrist much.

Oh, I do like the modified Xs. They look sleeker. Maybe with boost or BR now? =D

Not gonna lie, I hate the claymore lightsaber. I'm sure its another nod to KOTOR-era things, but I just think its a bit too illogical, even for SW.

That's a good point. I hadn't considered the camouflage aspect, which makes me like it all the more, even if it is a strange cinematic choice. I trust the fight scenes will be fairly clear though, unless it's all atmospheric dogfighting, then they definitely will be.

I know, I know! Black and Orange! :P

This guy, right here.

It's not super clear in this grab, but if you look closely when the shot is moving, the helmet has some interesting bumps on top(!)

The REAL question, of course, is that since it's obvious FFG is going to release TIE Fighters with the new white-on-black color scheme to coincide with the movie release...

...are we still going to get ESB/RotJ 'blue' TIE Fighters, to match the Interceptors, Bombers, Defenders, etc?

That was obviously the running theory - FFG would release a pair of blue TIE Fighters at some point. (Imperial Aces 2? In another 'huge' Imperial ship, maybe with that "Rebels"-series Gozanti freighter?) Now that we've got another color scheme and new fighter...?

Maybe one each?

Still not liking the new X-Wings, but the new TIEs are ok.

They're crazy metallic so they reflect everything, and their panels are bright white.
