New TIE Fighters!
There is some early shots of a wrecked ATAT as wel isnt there, doesnt one of the characters allegedly live in it?
Put it this way if i was on tattoine i'd rather live in a downed star destoryer than a hole in the ground...
It isn't Tatooine in any of the trailers. Its Jakku (sp).
If that planet were Tatooine, there would be a lot of very happy Jawas.
And this TIE-Cocky with turret? LOL!
Imagine a Tie swarm with turrets

It's not a turret. It's the front of an up-armored TIE variant.
Its the back side with a window for a rear gunner.
Which is more likely?
(1) All of the new TIEs do something that's unprecedented for fighters in any Star Wars movie, violates the "works like WWII atmospheric combat" rule, and makes it hard for audiences to track what was going on.
(2) One new TIE is visually distinct from the rest, with an armored viewport and extra doodads on the wing pylons.
Edited by Vorpal SwordIt is obvious that the cogs are shield generators and the turret at least is able to fire backwards.
A heavy duty Tie Fighter

No, it's definitely the back. In other pictures released this weekend you can identify this fighter by the big "cogs" on the wing supports and clearly see the standard tie cockpit window on the front. Plus the concept art of one of these fighters crashed shows that this side was the ship's 6 o'clock when it gouged the big trench in the ground as it hard landed.

Agreed what we've seen so far makes it clear cut thats the ass end.

I'd go with both. And TIEs moving like we see in the trailer is nothing new. We've seen them move just like that in several episodes of Star Wars Rebels.
So ... white solar panels?
WHY THE **** SHOULD SOLAR PANELS EVER BE WHITE?
Thats not how things work ... and its not cool to just invert colors .... like the visual designers were on drugs or something like that. Maybe they smoked their own ****....
It's because they're not Solar Panels.

No, but TIEs with their main guns in a chin-mounted turret are otherwise restricted to obscure corners of the EU.
I'm sticking with "up-armored TIE with fixed guns".

They are no longer solar panels... Solar power was inefficient....
They are Dark Energy panels !!!!
It's the back of the up armoured TIE variant. You can see the front of the cog TIEs on one of the posters.
As for TIEs moving like that, they can all do that the same way X-wings can casually cruise out of hangars. It's the repulsorlists.
They can't scream through space sideways but when they're moving that slowly they can repulsorlift around.

Sorry, Vorp - unless this thing crashed going full reverse, the concept art makes it pretty clear that it's the back, and a turret.
Plus the poster a few pages back that depicts the front.
A TIE with a chin turret wouldn't be able to shoot in all directions anyway - just forwards and backwards. Otherwise it would saw its panels in half.

Maybe those white solar panels are laser-permeable

Actually a common problem in the Lucasarts universe!
Edited by FTS GeckoA tail gun doesn't really need to shoot sideways. It's for killing ships that are tailing you.

I think you missed option 3
JJ just can't help himself but make unnecessary changes
Chin gun AND rear gun....you can see it in the reflection of the new 1/6th scale toy annnounced recently: 2 guns.
I count 3 diff TIE's now from art, trailers, toys, etc. There's Chromey TIE, Non-Chromey TIE and Red-Stripey Cog TIE w/ double guns.
