It is obvious that the cogs are shield generators and the turret at least is able to fire backwards.

As for TIEs moving like that, they can all do that the same way X-wings can casually cruise out of hangars. It's the repulsorlists.

They can't scream through space sideways but when they're moving that slowly they can repulsorlift around.

Sorry, Vorp - unless this thing crashed going full reverse, the concept art makes it pretty clear that it's the back, and a turret.

Plus the poster a few pages back that depicts the front.

Actually a common problem in the Lucasarts universe!

A tail gun doesn't really need to shoot sideways. It's for killing ships that are tailing you.

Chin gun AND rear gun....you can see it in the reflection of the new 1/6th scale toy annnounced recently: 2 guns.

I count 3 diff TIE's now from art, trailers, toys, etc. There's Chromey TIE, Non-Chromey TIE and Red-Stripey Cog TIE w/ double guns.
