New TIE Fighters!

By xanderf, in X-Wing

Maybe one each?

Still not liking the new X-Wings, but the new TIEs are ok.

I guess I could see that - 'Imperial TIE Aces' expansion that includes a blue TIE Fighter and a white/black one? Be kind of a bummer to do it that way, but I could see FFG doing that.

When was it confirmed there would be 'blue' TIEs?

Just wanted to drop this one here. ucjvz2vdysb3vnfyr2l8.jpg

BUT ALL I HAVE ARE MORE QUESTIONS

In this official artwork image, we see the "clanky" TIE's with little turrets underneath.

Why does the tie have engines at the front though?

To slow it down? :)

Why does the tie have engines at the front though?

Those lights in the front are...I've got no flippin' idea.

Every single TIE Fighter has them, from the TIE Fighter through the Advanced to the Interceptor and the TIE Defender and Phantom...always and only just two of them.

They sure aren't engines, but they aren't blasters, either - the TIE Interceptor and Defender, with massively more firepower, never fires from anywhere near them. And the TIE Bomber has the same blaster weapons as the TIE Fighter...but lacks the two lighted points up front.

So...I've got nothing. Some kind of IR-sensor system or something that the bomber doesn't need? Who knows - but not engines, and not weapons.

They're the laser cannons, one for each dice you roll at range 2 :P

It's even on the Backstabber card.

edit: what language is this?!

edit2: probably Polish

Yeah, but they aren't , though. I mean, the TIE Interceptor has those same **** lights on it, and never shoots from them .

So does the TIE Defender!

And the TIE Bomber lacks them, but has the same firepower as the TIE Fighter....GAAAAH!

I think this TIE is the Chrome Trooper's variant.

The new X-Wings and TIEs look amazing. I feel they fit within the SW universe.

Han and Chewie back .. I had goosebumops after watching that clip. I for one am extremely excited for EPVII.

See times moved on so surely the tie interceptor should be the standard fighter now not the LN, but no he's instead messed with a classic design just because he can.

I'd rather a new generation of fighters to rehashing what was already a solid design.

Obviously the Interceptor was a Jobs program and too costly to maintain. The more expensive Interceptors were eventually retired in favor of upgrading the more cost efficient TIE LN with modern avionics.

The official schematics make no sense about where the lasers are on TIEs.

on the TIE/ln the lasers are the 2 red 'lights' under the cockpit. (yet they shoot green)

on the TIE Interceptor the lasers are in the solar panels.

on the TIE Defender the 2 red 'lights' are labelled as the missile tubes.

This. This makes the most sense.

They're gun mounts. The interceptor has the mounts because of the standardised cockpit but doesn't have guns in them because six guns was a little overkill (although if you beef up its power output you can put all six in). Same with the TIE defender.

The bomber's gun location is... debatable.

I saw a screen cap of the hanger scene and to the very far left of the frame it looks like the wings of an Interceptor.

Don't get the hate, this is the most "Star Wars" anything we've had since Return of the Jedi...

Debatably RoTS but yeah, I agree.

I liked RotS for the most part (McGregor acted his ass off) but it didn't bring back that feeling of being a little kid playing with Luke and Vader Kenner action figures under my grandma's kitchen table like this trailer has.

It's like this: the one Kenner toy I wanted growing up was the Lamdba shuttle. The Prequels would be like if they made a close but not quite close toy. This movie is like finding the original toy mint in box but somehow someone added cool new features.

Almost sure it's shooting backwards. The other Ties in the teaser have the regular cannons in the usual positions.

You can also make out the other ships in the background, they do look like troop transports (the one on the left has the hatch open).

Trouble is with that shot, And other shots of the ties you see a normal tie back, Not this. this has to be a new tie. more armor and such.

And here, There is none of the extra armor or changes to the tie other than colors and the connection points of pylon to wing.

Doesn't look like this Front or back

Indeed, as established back on page 3 of this thread...

...it's definitely a slight variant of the new 'standard' TIE.

I like how these pictures give you a sense of the massive scale of a TIE. Those cockpits are ginormous. You could fit several people in them easily.

It does seem to somewhat definitively settle the argument about FFG's use of the 'official scale' of the models.

I mean, the TIE Fighters in our game are pretty obviously *exactly* the right size based on these scenes!

I don't know about several. Maybe two or three at most. I'm sure most of that space is reserved for the stuff that actually makes the ship work.

Just like in Rebels!

it's a metal box on four wheels, not seeing much progress there.

I fail to see how you can play XWM, being a blind man...

Actually, the Interceptor DOES shoot from them:
