Heirs of Blood - New Info

By any2cards, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

In case you are a Descent fan, and have been living under a rock, Heirs of Blood is a book which will contain a new campaign for Descent.

I found out some more info about this book, and thought I would share in case it wasn't seen by most ...

In theory, it is suppose to be released in the third week of April. Some have posted a April 21st date, and some have posted a April 24th date.

It is suppose to involve a sweeping new campaign in a secret kingdom, with 32 brand new encounters. To conclude the campaign, it is suppose to include an epic 3 encounter finale.

Really looking forward to this. I sincerely hope that it is well thought out, and well play tested. This could be a very good format to introducing new content if it is received well.

It would be really nice, although I suspect it does not, if it made use of all of the expansions to date. Perhaps they will release such content in the future.

I'm looking forward to this campaign book. I don't mind that it just uses the base game. You and I have had this discussion before, but I am of the opinion that the Quest Vault provides a good enough resource for multi-expansion adventures.

I wasn't aware of the 3-encounter finale. That sounds fun.

Fun but brutal...

The OL will need to hoard cards over 3 encounters?

The heroes will carry their wounds and conditions over and over?

yee-owch!

I love the idea tho--it becomes a war of attrition. Can the OL make the heroes bleed enough before they force him to blow out his deck completely. Love it!

At the very least, I'm hoping they make sure the quests have plenty of open monster groups. This would allow us to make use of our expansion content.

Even better (although I'm not as hopeful) would be adding options to include other types of expansion content to existing quests, such as offering a choice of lieutenants as groups, or allowing the purchase of Nerekhall Corrupt Citizen cards for Overlord, or getting Labyrinth of Ruin ally cards as optional rewards if you happen to have that expansion.

What you´re talking about Charmy is something I´ve been really waiting for having in our campaigns, and as I see it it would be a tremendous improvement of the game in general. I´m glad you took that up.

There should definitely be a possibility to use the contents of the expansions as an option in any other campaign, as it would allow a much broader variety of the encounters. It could definitely renew our experience of some encounters. I would go as far as saying as some of the one-sided encounters around could potentially be more balanced through the inclusion of some of these extra mechanisms. Bluntly put, in a very OL-sided encounter, why not burning your Ally card so Serena can join the party and do her best to support the heroes on a quest that seems lost at first sight. As the OL on a hero-sided encounter, why not upgrading a changeling to its corrupt citizen version to get that extra punch/toughness.

All in all, a range of options, some of them I guess need to be one-time things you can do to avoid altering the campaign too much, but some additional tools you can use to help you in your progression.

The little icon thingy says it's "Shipping now".... Check your local stores...

It's available for pre-order on Amazon.com for $19.99 (plus 8.25 S&H), released on April 24.
