The WH40K Forums Are Revolting

At which point a red faced old lady departs still muttering that she knows what she wants and its and 'ock cock gobber' and that Steve is clearly and idiot for not knowing what one is...

That's old ladies for ya. They are right and the whole rest of the world is wrong...

They also don't care that what they are asking for could very well be a friggin' sex toy.

I also googled it and this thing popped up:

Is that a spoiler of the new "Phoenix Dragon" Eldar flyer?

OK. It's D-Day.

I've had a look on the Games Workshop website, the rules are up, the warscrolls are up...

... and I don't get it. Seriously, wtf?

It's simple they stole mtg lore and the unhinged gimic then put that in a blender with warhammer

And you have age of sigmar.

It features such hilarity as riding an imaginary horse and talking to it to activate the mad counts ability.

Dancing while rolling that activities a power! Such fun.

And of course you can autowin by comboing a screaming bell with fateweaver you roll 2D6 then ignore it and have fateweaver make it a 13!

And of course tzeenchian demons can have an infinite summoning loop that lets them flood the board with sourcerers and greater demons!

It's heart breaking really, 30 years just crapped on by GW.

I'm seriously thinking that they're just seeing how much crap they can get away with.

Just abandoning warhammer would of been kinda than this, they could of easily kept wfb and done AoS as a babies first introduction to wargaming for young ones.

All that said...

I'm thinking the core rules could have somemerit if you want to run an old-school Realms of Chaos ascent-to-daemonhood warbands style campaign.

You know, Take a Chaos Lord/Sorcerer as your champion, randomly generate a warband by drawing 3 Warscrolls, then play your battles. Winner gains one Chaos Gift, loser gains one Chaos Attribute, casualties are permanent but you can generate more followers during the campaign...

If you reach your chosen Chaos God's number in gifts, you become a Daemon Prince & have to wipe out all other warbands in the campaign. If you reach yout God's number in attributes, you become a Chaos Spawn and are eliminated from the campaign.

Could work well, especially if you combine the sudden death mechanic with escalating warband sizes - i.e. if you're seriously outnumbered, you need to complete an objective for an auto win. Or if you're losing heavily, you could voluntarily flee ther battlefield to save your warband members (at the expense of taking a Chaos Attribute, of course).

I reckon this could work quite well. The best part? The rules and warscrolls are available for free, so I don't have to pay anything to give it a try...

My problem with them is:

  • not the cheese combos
  • not the fact that you can charge what you can't see
  • not the fact that unit models must remain within range of each other BUT there's no penalty if they don't.

It is HOW IN THE SEVEN HELLS OF CHAOS DO YOU SELECT ARMIES IN A SOMEWHAT BALANCED MANNER?

Look GW, either do point values or army rosters, or both. But not plain nothing!

There is NO mention about the armies needing to be balanced/the same size.

OK Lets do this:

Josh: "Hey Robin, I brought my old Dwarfs army, it used to be about 2000 points in 8th edition.

Me: "Ok Josh here's my complete chaos army: It's about 3700 pts give or take."

Josh: T.T

Josh: "Hey Robin, I brought a small Dark Elf Army of a 50 minatures, how about you pick fifty minis to?"

Me: "OK That seems fair": Puts down KF on Deathclaw, 13 steamtanks*, 6 canons and 30 griffon Knights.

Josh: T.T

Is there even a rule that sais that I can only have one of each named character?

Me: "Hey josh! My army is made of Nagash!"

Josh: "What just Nagash? Ok one model vs an entire army that could be interesting."

Me: "No Nagash-plural. Nagashes? Nagashi? anyhoo I'm fielding 8 of them."

Josh: "Lets play 40k instead!" **

* More than there were actualy built according to the empire backstory.

** GW's plan all along...

My problem with them is...

...but what about

That feels like an actual rule that was written poorly and open to use/abuse.

The way you bring your armies is just:

GW designer: "Oi bos! we got no idea how ta balance diz stuff!"

GW CEO: "Gah! Just tell them to bring their buckets of toy soldiers and dump them on the battlefield!"

It smacks of even less effort then the rest of the rules...

There's a tzeenchian infinite summoning cycle someone worked out with a keeper of secrets and as long as your 18 away it's impossible to stop once rolling.

... Yeah but thats chaos so...

I get what you mean.

Of course eventually they will run out of models. So it's not truly infinte.*

* Unless this has been GW's plan all along to boost figure sales. :D

Been watching more YouTube battle reports new players like it up until their told the price of models and existing players Arnt too thrilled.

So it's another day at the office for Games Workshop, basically.

A brief look at Warseer/BoLS seems to show that Age of Sigmar has been about as well received as a flaming turd through the letterbox.

Shoddy product = great news for GW's competitors.

I will say the models look nice. They'll make great aditions to space marine/chaos space marine armies.

Ok slight jab there, but seriously the models look good. What i've seen from the new terrain also looks awesome.

The fluff I've heard described as "please bring back matt ward" wich should tell you how bad it has become. Not that it matters to me because i grew up with Masters of the Universe and mortal kombat, so I'm okay with this cheesy Warriors Orochy type of setting with weird realms and a mishmash of characters etc...If GW releases an audiobook of the novel I might just buy it and MST3K that stuff.

The rules. Oh lord. On the other hand it's not like we weren't warned. And yes, I call "the total rules will fit on 4 pages" as advance warning things would get bad.

The warscroll compendiums: We get to use all our old models again! Not all of them.

Somewhere in the mists of time there's Lucratia Belladonna telling Zhatan the Black how it's good that they aren't around to witness this Age of Sigmar nonsense...

If nothing else it made me re-apreciate Storm of Magic.

Now if you will excuse me, I've got a Sigmar/Dracothion slashfic to write... :D

On the plus side, the lenton HQ with its new AOS winged hammer and golden statue no longer looks like the third reichs secret HQ...

TBH, i've not played WFB since 6th edition when i was working there and play the far superior 3rd edition with all my mates who have since left GW so I don't really mind if this new version actually gets people playing WFB again. It was dying as a system.

We game in Warhammer World every wednesday for a Necromunda campaign and everyone else played 40k, i can't remember the last time i saw someone playing a game of WFB in there.

The irony is that when 40k first came out they underprinted the run thinking 'no one will like this'. Its why early 40k has rules or pretty much every 'fantasy' miniature in it as they only made about 60 miniatures for it's initial release.

It's not just forums YouTube review shows are not exactly glowing.

Also £17 for gold spray paint...I know they were toning down expectations ahead of July 31st financial report but I wonder honestly if it's gonna be worse than expected.

Paint got a price hike not long back and now metallic paint goes up another 95p.

The only model I really like is the Chaos Lord with pet Fleshhound. But then, I have a mono Khorne daemons army and it would be really nice if we got a box of plastic Fleshhounds before GW goes under.

Maybe it contains real gold ...

We wondered the same thing.

Its wierd seeing that picture.

Behind that big winged hammer icon is the board room, back in the day when we had meetings in there if the sun was in the right place the old imperial eagle would be shadowed across the table, that used to be well cool.

Im not sure how well that will work with the new symbol.
