Game recommendations?

By samuellinde1, in Battlestar Galactica

I'm a big fan of the BSG game and the Pegasus expansion, we're playing it at least a few times a week. This is the first game that I've really played a lot with this level of complexity (co-op, treachery, different game phases etc), but I'm really hooked.

Previously, my friends and I have mostly played simpler games like Settlers, Carcassone and Risk (fun games, but in no was as immersive as BSG), and now I'm looking into trying out some other games of more complex nature. Do you guys have any good recommendations for me? I've heard good things about games like Middle Earth Quest and Arkham Horror with all it's expansions, would any of them be a good investment in your opinion?

Thanks!

I'm a big Arkham Horror fan... its completely co-op, no traitor or anything, but its a great game. I would suggest starting out with only the base game though, once you have a good grasp of the rules then start adding expansions if you want. Arkham is one of those games, that even though we've been playing it a long time, we still find things in the rules every now and again that we aren't doing right.

Ditto on Arkham Horror. It's nice and dense, co-op is lots of fun, and it's flexible on number of players. Hope you like lots of bits!

If you like Risk, you might like War of the Ring, though I think 1v1 is best. You can do the suggested 3 or 4 player alternatives, but to me it's just as fun if you have 2 people play one side, making decisions together.

Also check out Puerto Rico. No dice rolling, light on the conflict. (No attacking, you just try to be the best.)

Ditto Arkham Horror.

It's a bit more complex than BSG, and you'll usually need at least one player who really knows the rules to keep it moving.

Definitely just start with the base game. You'll get overwhelmed otherwise.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I'll definitely get a copy of Arkham Horror as soon as possible. Just downloaded the rules to see if I could get an overview of the gameplay – it looks really interesting. True, a bit more complex than BSG, and maybe without the element of mistrust, but it looks very fun indeed.

Thanks a lot, and of course for all the other suggestions as well.
