Collateral damage vs Lockdown, Dark Swarm / Mind Control

By RESHETO., in StarCraft

Lockdown and Dark Swarm cards say that opposing FLU lose ground attack capabilities. I assume from this it cancels Collateral damage too, but we are not sure because rules say: if your FLU is not destroyed then it triggers. So for example: Ghost vs Reaver, Ghost does not have sufficient strenght but used Lockdown and Reaver used Improved Reaver Capacity. Does Collateral damage trigger?

Mind Control takes effect at the end of Destroy units step and can take control only of FLU (cannot mind control supporting unit). So if I have sufficient strenght to kill opposing FLU, it doesnt anything? It is a bit annoying because if you want to use it then you have to play cards with low stats so you dont kill it and that means your FLU will be destroyed. Or it doesnt matter you have sufficient strenght and take control you destroy it or not?

and 1 more thing.. can you assign Reinforcement card to Mind Controled unit? It seems you should be able to do that, especially if its Protoss unit but on the other hand a Marine with bonus of Shield Battery.. heh

According to game rules, CD is triggered.

Lockdown / Stasis Field - it lasts only temporarily, so if unit with CD is not destroyed, it can continue fight later

Dark Swarm - notice that ability never protects buildings in video game, and it covers only a small area (mostly not enough big to procect both Zerg army and workers).

Mind Control - I'm not sure if mind controled = destroyed (only for purposes od triggering CD) You need opposing FLU to survive to mind control it.

If I remember well, you are allowed to use reinforcement cards only for mind controlled Protoss units.

But isnt there a difference between: 'lose attack capabilities in skirmish' (lockdown, dark swarm) and 'final attack value is 0' (optical flare, statis field)? When unit's final attack value is 0 then CD is surely triggered. But if you lose attack capabilities (ground attack, air attack, splash damage, collateral damage) in skirmish I would say that is a different case.

attack capabilities only refers to ground attack and air attack capabilities. splash damage and collateral are not "attack capabilities"

Exactly. Collateral Damage is an ability that is not at all dependent on whether or not your FLU was able to destroy the opposing unit. Unlike Splash Damage, Collateral Damage is an ability entirely dependent on whether or not your FLU is still alive at the end of the battle. Note: Even if the unit survives the individual skirmish, it still may be destroyed by another opposing unit's Splash Damage, in which case the Collateral Damage would not be triggered. So, focus on keeping your unit alive.

In regards to Mind Control, think of it this way: It is simply a way to "destroy" the opposing unit, even if you did not have sufficient attack strength. After all, let's face it: the unit is most likely going to be destroyed in its next skirmish anyway, because you will be taking the top card from your opponent's Combat Deck. The chances of you drawing the right card for it to be effective in that skirmish is pretty slim. So, don't focus on expecting to control that unit as much as use it as a just-in-case-it- isn't- destroyed strategy. This could theoretically mean the difference between controlling the area or not, if all of the other units were destroyed in the battle.

Thats not true, Collateral Damage is resolved immediately after Resolve Skirmishes step, that means before Resolve Splash damage step... it doesnt matter ur unit with CD is destoryed with splash damage or not...

My bad. The rulebook states,

" If a front-line unit with this ability is not destroyed during
the Resolve Skirmishes step
of a battle
, the owning player
may immediately choose to do one of the following:

• Destroy one enemy base in the area.
• Destroy one enemy installation in the area.
• Destroy all enemy workers in the area (on the
corresponding resource card).

I got confused about the difference between "Resolve Skirmish" and "Resolve Battle".
