Treasure Hunter question I didn't see answered elsewhere.

By UberMagus, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

So, my group has started a new game of Descent, and we're having our buddy be OL. Now, it's his first time, but he is one of "those" gamers: Great guy, but winning is everything, and he will twist and torment the rules(never break, though) to his advantage. Since he plays that way, we kinda have to do the same(having to min/max because your OL does... Yay).

So, a couple of my questions are as follows:

1) Face down objective tokens: Do you perform a Search Action to reveal them, or is it a separate and unique action to reveal them? (Specifically asking about Honor Among Thieves, part II). i.e. Treasure Hunter's "Dungeoneer" ability. I know his compass does not work, as they are not "Search Tokens", but is revealing them a "Search Action"?

2) Also, referring to that quest: Do you keep the gold gathered, even if you lose? I ask, because it says you get 100 PLUS what you gathered, if you win, and it doesn't say you don't keep it if you lose. I compare it to searching. You keep what you search for, even if you lose, so it seems you'd keep the gold, as well...

It is not a search action. Because it says the heroes keep that gold as a reward if they win, they do not keep it if they lose.

Thanks for the timely response.

I was wondering, because the rules state that "Challenge Tokens" are revealed by a "Search Action", so I wasn't sure if "Objective Tokens" were, as well.

So, basically, if the OL just blocks the entrance, you don't get anything? Have to keep that in mind for my turn at the helm. :)

You can get search gold win or lose, like always. The special rules say "as an action, reveal an objective token." That's a special action, not a search action. Just because what you're revealing is treasure doesn't make it a search action.

Just blocking the entrance is difficult- this is one of the few maps where the heroes ACTUALLY CAN stop OL reinforcements by blocking the spaces marked on the map. Additionally, there are plenty of hero skills that can move monsters or do group damage to them- the OL should at least attempt to slow their token flipping- if he doesn't they'll get the gold they need in no time.

Also, you shouldn't allow your OL to bend the rules. If you mean he is just using every advantage he can get, that's one thing- if he's making vague phrasing work to his advantage and stuff like that, it shouldn't be allowed on either side. Also, if winning is everything, he is going to have a rough ride as OL.

Oh, he won't break the rules. :) But he will push them to the limits. :)
He basically hid the monsters behind the overgrowth. There were many mistakes made, however. :) (For example, I didn't realize you could choose to NOT stand up when KO'd, so when he cornered a hero he was able to farm himself a lot of fatigue/OL cards.) That, and we, as a group, didn't know the "no double cards" rule. Doubling up Blinding Speed when you have a Grisban to target with it is rough.

Just a rough quest, in general, for a Treasure Hunter. :) Not much to proc his abilities, since they center around Search tokens and actions. :)
