Hi V. There are more to come. I'm trying to get Photoshop CS4 into the Mac side of my new notebook. If it doesn't happen soon, I'll just book into my XP side. My objective it so offer more "task" based alternatives to all of the standard quests... and additional ones as well. Talisman does have limited dimensions for such, but there should be enough to fun.
Question: should I create a few Adventure cards that would allow the occasional drawing of a Quest card during play? Since the new cards offer other rewards besides a Talisman, they have the potential for more appeal in overall play. I was thinking of 5 particular ones, though maybe that's too much.
The titles need work, but that's the gist of the idea. Anyone have additional thoughts?
And yet another new "quest" intended to replace the 3 or 2 Gold standard card... And yes, I see the typo now and will fix it soon.

The last card should be corrected now. I've added additional options, though I'm concerned that it might be too much. Comments are welcome.
More alternative quest cards will be on the way in the coming days. For now, here is one of three planned quest "compounders" that will be part of the set as well (and obviously optional for inclusion in play). As before, you can right-click and "save" or "view" for the printable 300dpi version.

Here's another task altering card used in combination (when drawn) with any quest card. More "real" alternative quests coming soon.

I am reissuing two cards below (with some minor art and detail changes) along with one new replacement "quest". Righ-click to "view" or "save" the 300dpi printable versions.

The "Seal of Bondage" has been reworked and changed to the "Scroll of Bondage." Also here is another quest "task" outside of the range of the standard ones, providing some mayhem and player competition.

Truly awesome quests, I must say!
Just a thought: perhaps it is better to take a (random?) treasure card instead of looking through 200+ adventure cards. Looking through a deck always stall a game (Demigod anyone?) - Looking through the adventure deck will stall the game for ten minutes or more (if you do not exactly what card to take right from the start). This is especially true if you have not played talisman very much and know every card by heart.
Now I only wait for Jon's new fantastic Talisman extension to Strange Eons before I release my own quest expansion. Cannot wait..

I had thought of that but decided against it for two reasons. First, a good expansion for general use should not be dependent upon having yet another expansion, even in just one component/card. Second, some of the Treasure cards are a bit potent for a simple one task reward rather than braving the Dungeon to get them, and some are not even what you would want while doing open adventuring on the board. I am not an advocate of more ways to hand out add-ons for characters to quickly patchwork high Strength and Craft for speed of play; let them work for real Strength and Craft.
Oh, and Fay are ethereal not magical, so yes the Queen of the Fay would be something like a Demigod.
She's the one giving the reward.
It's true that it takes a bit to look through the deck, and I had thought about limiting that one card for a Magic Object of choice to only those in the discard pile. But it is only one "task" card that allows this, so one occurence in a deck of say 15 quests shouldn't be that much of a stall. And ten minutes? Hmmm... that's a bit much by estimate, and.
Another option might be to keep the card, place a token on it for the bonus it provides to either Strength or Craft? What do you think? Possibilities would obvious be Strength or Craft, but I suppose there might be a way to work it for Life or Fate, though the Reward part of the card would get wordy.
Or what about drawing a number of Adventure cards and choosing one to encounter... which could include something of use or an Enemy to fight? Or maybe choose up to 2 to encounter? Or draw 5 and keep any Magic Objects (or Gold) that one finds?
Yes, one should aim not to be too dependent of another expansion - I can agree on that. Sometimes there can be interesting synergies between expansions though. For instance, some of your quests may require a character to venture deep down in the dungeon (that is why they introduced the Expansion Icon, see Dungeon expansion). With that said this card is probably not a case of the aforementioned synergy =).
To respond to your second reason I would argue that picking any Magic Object you want from the Adventure deck is more potent than drawing a random Treasure Card (think about Rune-sword, Wand etc. vs Talisman and Bag of Holding).
You are probably right; 10 minutes are an exaggeration. First I was thinking 3 seconds per card, but a smart player quickly sorts out any magic objects in another pile and then chooses. This will most likely take a lot less time than Demigod (that card is another matter...) but it is still an annoying game delay, in my opinion.
The alternative reward to add Strength or Craft as long as you keep this card means that you must be able to lose this card - which is great. Think about different criteria that makes you lose it. For instances:
-If you cross the river (much like Poltergeist but this time you do not want to because this card is a benefit not a curse)
-If you are Teleported for any reason.
-If you lose a Battle or Psychic Combat (depending of if you gained Strenght or Craft)
...
I like the last alternative as well; choose one card to encounter chosen from a certain number of Adventure Cards. Beware of hidden side effects though (I have not given this much thought yet).
I have also noticed that none of your cards includes the obvious reward of taking one or two cards from the purchase deck but I am sure that you already have plans for this one.
In the meantime... here are two more "task" based quests toward the eventual completion of this expansion.

The frickin' forum is being glitchy again. Thankfully I copied my post before it sucked into a void. Please excuse the reformatting of your quoted post:

Definitely the token marked card would have to become a Magic Object, but the conditions you propose would be too hard to describe on the card. Not enough room therein. And a sudden new "magic object" in play would still attract some competition.
You'll notice that most of the quest tasks I've built have the card turn into a Follower, Object, or Magic Object along the way... thereby they are subject to being taken by other adventurers in various ways. Getting a quest and fulfillng its requirements doesn't mean you'll be the one to claim the reward.

Yeah, I'm leaning that way myself, so there you are. It just seems simpler than other options. I'll get a new version of the Mad Fay up later today and you can review it again.
I have also noticed that none of your cards includes the obvious reward of taking one or two cards from the purchase deck but I am sure that you already have plans for this one.
Good point! I'll have to do something about that, eh?
Here's a new version of "A Mad Fay" for consideration...

And two more cards for review...

And another... but that's all for today. Just two more cards to come before I prepare a full package for review.

And here are the final 3 cards for the full set of 18. Certain previous cards have more edits as well. Over the next week I will put together documentation and accessory materials to package with them, then link a "Review" package for download herein. Credit for card concepts originally presented by others in this topic will be included in the documentation. After another week for comments and suggestions, I will make the final version available for download.

Great work.
When I get a moment, I intend to DL these cards.
Have you got a back for them?
Best Regards
DTH
There is a standard back for the Quest cards... somewhere. But I also intend (given time) to maybe put together an alternative... just so the alternative cards can be distinguished more visually as not to be mixed with the standard quests.

I'll wait till you get a spare moment then (scheduled for 2010, I hear?
