ABY

By Tokra, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I am heading for my first tournament at the weekend and want to play this squad. And was hoping for some tips, ideas or changes.

Is it to unfocused? To mixed? To complex for first time?

The idea is to flank with the A-Wing (unless there is a 360° on the other side) and deal double stress with the Y-Wing.

I noticed the main focus will be on the B-Wing. Especially because of the high cost. One change could be to remove the Autoblaster and the Chardaan Refit. And add a Proton Rocket on the A-Wing. For the 5 ATK.

Sadly the B-Wing will become really useless when there is a opponent ship with higher PS.In this case i wasted a lot of points and cards for something that is not really helping. But i hope it will not cause to many problems.

I have no idea what to expect on the enemy teams.

Tycho Celchu (32)

A-Wing (26), A-Wing Test Pilot (0), Chardaan Refit (-2), Push the Limit (3), Experimental Interface (3), Expert Handling (2)

Keyan Farlander (43)
B-Wing (29), Advanced Sensors (3), Autoblaster (5), Stay on Target (2), B-Wing/E2 (1), Navigator (3)

Gold Squadron Pilot (25)
Y-Wing (18), BTL-A4 Y-Wing (0), R3-A2 (2), Ion Cannon Turret (5)

You realize that you're never going to de-stress that Y-Wing, don't you? And by the same token, once it passes your opponent's ships (in typical jousting fashion) it's going to take forever to turn around and get back in the fight, if it manages that feat at all. I'm not sure some extra stress is worth that kind of point expenditure.

Yes. The Y-Wing will be perma stressed. It will be hard to move around. Depending on the team it could be possible to start with double stress after a K-Turn and trying to follow the other ship.

But i thought to use this against the Phantom (to stop the cloaking) and against any ship with PTL or secondary weapons that require focus or target lock.

One idea was to remove the titel on the Y-Wing and use another Astromech. But i like the double attack with double stress and the chance for ionize :).

As long as you accept that once you open fire you're getting no actions again ever, it should work.

It's a lot of stress - double-stressing a ship automatically and possibly ionising it into the bargain could leave it without actions for three turns of more. Granted, the Y-wing's in the same boat, but it doesn't necessarily care. It's just a shame there's no way to give the pilot Adrenaline Rush to come about at least once (it still surprises me that Horton doesn't have an elite talent - I think he's the only PS8 pilot in the game who doesn't?*).

Tycho's nice, but one thing you might want to consider rather than Expert Handling is Daredevil - an extra 90 degree turn on spec allows you to J-turn the **** thing...you do lose the ability to shed target locks, though.

If you're worried about higher PS pilots making the B-wing less useful, consider swapping the navigator for an intelligence agent, and you can get a read on your target's intentions regardless of how much better they are - you don't really need to change speed as long as you can change manouvre and barrel roll (if needed) - although swapping out the autoblaster for a longer reach cannon wouldn't hurt.

* Edit: Sorry. Captain Kagi in the shuttle doesn't either.
