Q: Spell that steals another Players Spell when it's cast

By Hein99, in Talisman

Ok. Question :)

Somewhere in the manual it says when a spell is cast it then imeadiately disapears into the ether and is no more.

During a game last night a friend (player A) cast a spell (forgot it's name) that said: when another player cast a spell you can take that spell for your own.

The trick is it says when the other player cast a spell. So does that mean the other player (player B) got to cast and enjoy the effect of the spell or was the spell stolen before anything happens?

The confusion for me is that Player B has to cast a spell before Player A and then use/cast his his spell... But once Player B cast the spell doesn't that mean it's gone because it was just used? Or does Player A's spell catpure Player B's spell just before it's actually cast?

I tried looking for this on the forum but it's too hard to search these forums. **FF please consider enhancing your forums.

Thanks All!

Hello,

looks like you're talking about a card called "Spell Call". No other Spell has an effect like the one you describe.

Card text is:

Cast immediately after any character casts a Spell. Instead of placing the Spell on the discard pile, you may take it.

Whenever a player casts a Spell he resolves it, then places it on the Spell discard pile. If another player uses Spell Call he may take the Spell the other one has just cast (and resolved) and add it on his own hand of Spells for later use. This is the way it works. Its not an enhanced Counterspell or a Reflection Spell.

i agree with what warlock says..

Player 1 can cast still the spell and use his effects. ( if player 2 cast spell call, then the spell from player 1 goes to player 2's hand after player 1 has use the effects of his spell.

Thanks guys! I can always count on this forum for super fast answers :)

So it's so difficult to cast Random if there are people with Spell Call and the Gipsy too... you can have triple random with only one spell card :D

Speaking of the Gypsy, she won today over the Assassin and Philosopher/Knight. Philosopher got Assassinated as punishment for using her ability to remove a Dragon from the board (though the replacement was a Giant, so Philosopher lost a life in that as well partido_risa.gif ) and was reborn as Knight. Assassin drew Transference from the Wand and rushed toward the Inner Region, with Gypsy sitting at the Crown. In his haste, he forgot about her ability with the Spell, which would've meant Transference-Transference, unless the Assassin got really lucky and drew Counter Spell from the Spell deck (and 1 CS had already gone away when the Philosopher died). But he failed to get past the Portal of Power and next Command Spell finished him off.

That's a good one aplauso.gif

i have not thought about that, that the gypsy can also get the tranference spell and use it too, to get her revenge in the inner region.

it sounds like the gypsy is a good character to play the game.

Yeah, her ability to ignore all Events if she chooses is very nice. No Raiders (though if you use Raiders as written, nobody cares even if they draw them), no Mephistowhatever (who turns you to Evil), no Whirlwind, no Horse Thief (IIRC that's an Event). Today, the first Adventure Card was Pestilence, Gypsy liked that draw.

Also, if the Philosopher chooses to discard her first Spell card and draw another, Gypsy can start with 2 Spells.

Dam, you're still convinced that the Philosopher is a woman at heart, aren't you? gui%C3%B1o.gif

Yesterday I saw Gypsy in play for the first time and the Character did well, despite being constantly harassed by others because everybody feared the player. He's always lucky, lucky, lucky like nobody else, so we did the best to bring ruin to him, then decided the game between the three of us. We don't do this every time of course, but when someone wins two games in a row it's more than deserved. He's not only lucky of course, he never forgets to take advantage of his special Abilities, he's also quite skilled at Talisman and in board games in general.

With the Gypsy in the game you really need to think carefully when casting Spells. You cast Strength/Craft... Gypsy automatically gets a point after you. You cast Mesmerism/Acquisition and you're very likely to be the next target of the same Spell. Unicorn passed from Assassin to Amazon to Gypsy in 3 Turns... it was the early game and nobody realised the power of Gypsy permanent Spell Call yet. Random is not that terrible now that there's Fate. Gypsy is Good, has a lot of Fate and interesting Abilities. She's a good Character indeed. Swashbuckler is better in my opinion, but it depends on your style of play I believe.

Either that, or he is girlier than the Minstrel. Honestly, you can look at that char as either way.

We don't pick on the player as such, we pick on the character (mostly the Sage). Of course, those two go hand-in-hand.

Some people believe that the Reaper is also a woman...

I see him as a men gui%C3%B1o.gif

While we're on the subject of the Gypsy, what's the exact timing of Random -> Toad vs Gypsy? Didn't matter yesterday, as she was up to spell limit at that time, but Gypsy got Toaded by a Random Spell (5th Toad in 45 games if someone other than me is keeping score). Would she get the Spell first or be Toaded first?

I would say that she become a toad first, because the spell must first use it's effect.

After a spells affect, she can get the spell that is being cast, but because you are a toad, that means that you don't get the spell..

I agree. But if someone cast Immobility on Gipsy, she can get it?

You could say, that she can not get it...

Immobility says that a character can do nothing except using a counter spell.

If she can do nothing, then it would be weird if she use her ability to get the immobility spell after it's being cast..
