Possible locations for other three Pro Tours?

By Tader Salad, in UFS General Discussion

My apologies if this has/is already being discussed in another thread. I was wondering where you guys think the other three Pro Tours should be. I'm not quite sure if the U.K. is being factored in. If so I'm not proficient with playgroups and local geography so I'll leave that to the experts across the pond. For now I will assume that one Pro Tour goes to the U.K. and the other two should be:

1. U.S. west coast - California has a healthy player base, as does washington and I beileve Arizona too. If we wanted something as reasonably centralized as possible, I would say Nevada around the Reno area. If we want it closer to more dense clusters of UFS playgroups I would say anywhere between San Francisco/Santa Clara/Sacramento would be fine.

2. With South and West covered, I think the last Pro Tour should be in either Ontario or Michigan. The goal of this last Pro Tour is to pull people from New York, Michigan, Wisconsin, Ontario, Quebec, Ohio and surrounding areas.

Let me know what you guys think. BTW is anyone else greately pleased with the way we ripped off the name Pro Tour from MTG? As bison would say "It's Delicious!" I've heard that some people are worried that UFS will degrade if it starts to mirror the large events for magic. To be honest I couldn't be more happy. Those events can be quite fun. The thrill and challenge of facing off vs. up to hundreds of other players who fought like hell to get there, amazingly fun side events with cool prizes, tons of other players to trade/mingle with, the experience of crashing another city with your friends and not knowing where your going half the time. This can only be made better by the fact that UFS players are generally much more friendly and sociable and have a good time. If your 16-32 man regional kicked ass, just imagine how much fun a 100+ man Pro Tour could be (gotta be optimistic).

I might be biased, ok I'm biased, you should totally have it in Rochester, NY. Millenium is a huge store. So big we were able to run a regional at the same time as a magic pre-release. The scout has run those huge Magic PTQs. Regardless, expect me at a northeast regional this game is so F'n fun and amazing again. I really want to see what other people are rocking.

If I had to pick some places it'd be the following, most likely in this order:

1: Oshawa (Slight biased, but it's close to all the Canadian groups, all the New York and Michigan groups, and even Ohio aint that far off)

2: NYC (As a major city, it should have the capacity to hold a large group)

3: Rochester (Same as NYC, only not as big... And I've been to Rochester before ><)

4: Wherever the heck in Michigan Olexa and crew play (Again, close to multiple playgroups)

5: Wherever the heck in Ohio those Buckeyes play

if we (the british) were to have one it would prob be in the same place as nats as it is cental easy to get to and has a large play group (maybe the second biggest in uk)

This topic has 1200 odd views, Um- WHAT

Is there really only going to be 3 more events like these i guess i have to hope that one ends up closer to me the NY becuase even that is pushing it on range for me

No one from NYC is going to travel to Canada for a tourney like this. There is no reason whatso ever a major event like this is supposed to be shouldnt be in NYC. It has one of if not the largest player bases for the game in the closest geographical areas, and is a major travel hub so it is a lot easier for everyone from the surrounding east coast area to get here than to have everyone here get somewhere else.

Everytime NYC has a tourney at Kings game ala the ECC or whatever we get tons of people, and Kings games has at least enough space to support an event like that.

only problem with nyc is the cost its just to expencive of a place for most the ppl to stay

And the problem with not NYC is that the NYC players will mostly not come because they will feel slighted that they had to travel to accomidate a few people who cant. It does cost more money to come to NYC but far more money will be spent if NYC has to go somewhere else.

Except in this case why wouldn't you accomidate the region that has the most players overall. If you can't please everyone why not please the most people. The NYC metro area pretty much includes Jerseys players and having lived upstate i can say without batting an eyelash i used to hop on the train and come to the city for magic events back in the day all the time when i was like 17, its not hard at all. Not only does the city represent the highest concentration of UFS players i think out of any geographical region on the UFS map, but it also represent the most logical travel hub for the most surrounding players.

I do agree with having one on the west coast (probably in the San Jose / Santa Clara / Santa Cruz area) and another on the east coast (likely in NYC or Boston), with the UK getting the final slot. Magic, as well as all other games with serious organized play, similarly divides up the nation based on player density, rather than geographic regions. I could also be biased and say "Let's have one in Sacramento!", but I think the bay area would be better for everyone.

I beg to differ sir!! Who leaves a reanimated on the board to get killed next turn honestly. loljk.

EDIT: On a side note, 2144 veiws?! Crazy talk.

Yes, but you have to consider more than just one area. Yes NY has alot of players, but there are other states that have alot of players too. A central location is a better solution. Pennsylvania is close by, and people from New York, Ohio, Jersey, Michigan, Maryland, Viginia and West Virginia could all travel there fairly easy. It's a nice central location.

have to agree pennsylvania not a bad idea

We all know what's gonna happen.

1 is in the SAS.

1 will probably be in the UK.

1 will probably be mid-west or west coast.

The last one will be in NYC, possibly at the ECC.

You know why?

Because everyone other than Canadians in this topic pretty much went "**** Canada."

You can outright say you don't want us around, we'll understand.

I'll be honest...I'm a cheap bastard that doesn't want to buy a passport just to go to Canada. That and it doesnt seem like a central location...but does have amazing ketchup and soda. If it was in Oshawa I'd totally be sitting there drinking up all that jone's soda again. Think I had like 4 that day:)

As of now we are only accepting up to 5 PTC events in the USA, 2 events in Canada, and 1 event in the UK each year.

right on the main UFS PTC myspace page, to all the people speculating that canada isn't getting one.

I'd imagine for USA they'll probably be @ the SAS, GCC, ECC, ?? , and ??.

Canada:

Stop 1: Oshawa most likely (though I can see Montreal getting the nod in it's stead)

Stop 2: Calgary (with a huge player base)

UK:

Wherever the heck they hold UK Nats

US:

SAS

GCC

ECC

Desert Wars if they have another maybe?

Or something in Texas

Im in favor of the Pennsylvania Stop as well, but isnt that where Nats is held?

I think NY should be left with ECC and not have 2 different events and it they were merged into one what would be the point in this whole idea if we arent going to have different events?

I wish it could be. But as usual, i would favor montreal. but The location could be worst... like R-D-Hell. now this is how to kill an event
