Entire Squad firing at 7/8 for at least one round. Seems fun I am going to try it out.

I would prefer to give Rexler an EPT, usually predator but if you plan to fly him near Howlrunner I would also consider VI. As I'm not a big fan of Mauler (I usually only get one R1 shot with him before he pops) I would downgrade him to a BSP with swarm tactics and keep the remaining points for initiative or predator if you plan on flying Rexler solo.

I've always found mauler lackluster, which is sad because I love the idea of him. I would consider trading him back down to another academy, which frees up 7 points to kit Rexler out a bit better with HLC or some subset of upgrades like engine and predator or predator and a control cannon.

I was typing pretty much this exact thing. Rexler is very low benefit without some kind of predator\re-roll. Mangler also works well if you don't end up with enough points for HLC. I would go HLC with Predator.

Predator+Howl gives Rex a lot of offense giving more opportunities to hold Focus for his ability or defense, it also lets 2 ships shoot before him (Howl and an AP) to strip shields or tokens. The Ion Cannon lets you get a target predictable for a turn, and then swarm them with a bunch of close range shots. Dropping Swarm Tactics for an upgrade to Obsidians for a bid against BBBB lists is reasonable, as is using those points for a Hull Upgrade or defense for Howlrunner is pretty reasonable, too.
