How to expand - Skirmish ( with a side of campaign)

By S4tosh1, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

Hi there. I finally got my copy of imperial assault and played some campaign games, and i can say that i love it.
And i want to buy some expansion packs. I see myself playing mostly skirmishes when the community grows in my local area, and will play a stable campaign with my fiancée and another one, i hope, with some friends.
I was thinking of buying IG-88 so i can field a full 40pts skirmish squad of mercenaries, and then Royal Guard Champion as i really like the model, i heard there is a good agenda card and it's a powerful model to have in skirmishes. I have no idea on what to buy for rebels. My budget is 40 Euros at the moment (will surely expand more when i get more budget for IA), with packs going for 10 most singles and 20 the troopers at the site where i buy (no FLGS sells it in my area yet) . The list i made above would leave me with 20 bucks left. What can i buy with that to make a solid rebel squad? Or is it better if i don't take IG-88 / RGC to get something else for rebels? I will be mainly playing imperials/scum but i would like to be able to lend the other 2 factions when playing so i can get more people into the game. Thanks in advance for your advice

I guess it all depends on your play-style, really. If you're more into swarm tactics, and having a larger spread of units to obtain objectives easier, I'd say go for the Rebel Trooper Pack, which gives you 3 Units in the box for 15 bucks. Now, this is only a force of 6 Points for regular and 9 for elite troops, but it's the number of units which is the deal there. If you're more into powerful solo units, you could go along the lines of Chewbacca who is a tank, and has a cost of 15. He only cost 10 bucks price wise though, which would leave you some coin for a possible addition of Han Solo as well.

So yeah, the factors of debate are Price Cost, vs Unit Costs, vs Play-style.

My mail issue is that troopers here sells for 20 bucks cheapest, which is the cost of 2 smallest packs. It's something i was considering buying, but it's a cheap unit cost wise as you said and building a list with these would require me to have more than one pack i guess. White buying chewie + han would allow me to have two powerful units at the same price... Not mentioning the appeal those two figures could have on People trying the game, it's sure more "spectacular" to play as/with han and chewie than regular Troopers.

That said, is it a wise choice to buy there two or i'm still better off with something else (i.e troopers)?

Also remember that you can still use the Base Games' Characters in skirmish as well. Including the rather powerful Luke. So, having that said, you could make up a mix of Luke, Hero and Troopers, or any combination there of. You're definitely not needing to buy two Trooper Packs (Unless that's something you want to do).

I have the same problem with higher prices, here in Canada. The troopers are 20 dollars, Han was 15, same as Chewie...and Weiss is actually $30 (almost one third of another boxed set!).
