The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly - Wave VII

I'm putting in my prediction for Wave VII!

100pt squad box for each faction!

Rebel "good" = 1 new large ship plus 2 existing small ships with new paint jobs

Empire "bad" = 3 existing small ships plus 1 new small ship

Scum "ugly" = 1 Large and 2 small

mainly because this would give all three factions the same amount of large ships

Rebels = Falcon, outrider Ghost?

Imps = Decimator, Lambda, Firespray

Scum - Aggressor, Firespray, Havok?

What do you guys think?

That posting "Speculations on Wave VII" in the main title could avoid high hopes being frustrated...

I'm thinking 2 aces packs for the original factions (Maybe X and E plus some fancy droids! And for the angry guys with black hats the Bomber and Defender + some updated ordinance).

Scum will get 2 new ships, so all factions have 9 ships to choose from.

Ten ship wave? Improbable.

What do you guys think?

I think you're predicting way too many ships. Other than wave 6, we've never had more than 4 per wave. Even wave 6 only had 5 if you include the 2 repaints, and it was only an exception because they needed to kickstart the new faction. I expect we'll only get 3 or 4 ships in wave 7, and I don't think any of them will be repaints. Usually repaints are reserved for side packages like Aces or Epics.

Too many ships. I'm going for:

1 rebel

1 imperial

2 scum

This could be further complicated by the ships being compatable with more than one faction.

I doubt we'll see aces within a wave. Any fixes will come via upgrades.

I do think one of the scum ships will be the Havoc.

What sort of base would a Havoc sit on? Too lazy to look up dimensions and compare with say a HWK or Y-wing.

That's something that's been said around here. But FFG hasn't said anything of the sort. It may very well be true, it would make sense to limit it to 1 ship per faction, because 6 ships a wave would seem to be pushing it.

But we don't actually know if that's true or not yet.

new starter
1-2 new rebel ship

1-2 new Empire ship
1-2 new scum ship

Maybe 2 scum ships, but it seems more likely that we'll just get one ship per faction from now on. It was important to have a quick release schedule on the first few waves to get the game established and to put all the iconic ships on store shelves. Since Wave 4 we're well into EU/Legends territory, and so the potential "oh wow that's cool" audience is smaller (everyone knows what a TIE Fighter is, not very many people know what a StarViper is). And honestly... a lot of the EU ships are sort of dumb looking, so FFG might be spending more production time developing new ships (like the Decimator).

The obvious next step is to start branching out into different eras of ship. So a Clone Wars wave 7 would be totally unsurprising to me. And with the new trilogy coming out, I have a hard time believing we won't be getting EP7-9 era ships for wave 8. I'm curious how they would handle that from a thematic and game balance point of view. It doesn't make sense for certain ships or pilots to be in the same battle (though I suppose we have that already, what with Mauler Mithel dogfighting Corran Horn).

And whatever it is will be a big middle finger to everyone not going to gencon...... I still have hatred for the decimator.

-edit- I love the decimator, but hated playing against the gencon'ers for a very, very, long time

It would be a large base. It's slightly larger than the Lambda.

Do you mean the Raider? The Decimator came from a computer game I think. I wouldn't mind if they developed a new Rebel ship just for this game. There are still several good Scum and Empire ships they could release.

I had those mixed up in my mind, I had though the Decimator was the FFG-designed ship.

But since they've established the precedent of designing brand new ships for their star wars games, you know they're going to do it for X-Wing eventually.

Since its basically been confirmed the next wave is bomber based (also hints at Aces upcoming), I would say

This seems like the most likely option, though specific ships can be any number of possibilities.

As for alternatives, I think it'd be great to have 2 mixed-faction boxed releases and a couple more bounty hunters (with mixed-faction pilot options).

1 - Bomber Aces: Scum/Rebel Y-Wing (maybe even a Rebel with an ET), Imperial TIE Bomber, some kind of ordnance buff.

2 - Space Superiority: Scum M22-T Krayt Gunship (heavy fighter with cannons and missiles, maybe a crew slot), Rebel X-Wing with Rogue Squadron title.

3 - Mist Hunter: 4 pilots for each faction (3 versions of Zuckuss, 3 versions of 4-LOM, and 2 Scum generics). It introduces the new Tractor Beam mechanic (I'm hoping for automatically allowing the attacker to reroll one of the defender's dice at R2 or two of them at R1).

4 - Punishing One: Three Scum Generics, and 2 versions of Dengar (one Imperial, one Scum), with Manaroo as a crew option and a new cannon (quad blaster cannon). Give the Scum versions a Salvaged Astromech slot, but an Imperial-only ET to compensate (REDESIGN Cybernetics, pilot automatically removes one Stress token at the start of the Combat Phase, or something like that).

we need slightly more scum ships per faction imo until the numbers start coming up to unity then three a wave will them be reasonable

The hint was (paraphrasing slightly) "The next wave will make fans of the TIE Bomber happy"

This could have any number of interpretations - like new ordnance or upgrades which improve / fix the ordnance mechanic

There's no requirement for them to come with a bomber type expansion, in the same way that autothrusters "fixed" Interceptors but didn't come with a new TIE Interceptor
