I just noticed the big ol' Disney logo on the latest FFG RPG books. The Disney logo really takes away the street cred of the RPG book. It also makes the RPG look infantile and geared toward children.

Does anyone know why Disney is choosing to place their logo on Star Wars merchandise? It's showing up on Star Wars FFG packaging, Hasbro toys, Marvel comics and more.

This really goes against Disney's previous practice of leaving their logo off non-Disney themed properties like Marvel, ABC, A&E and ESPN. The Disney logo does not show up on Avengers, Duck Dynasty or Monday Night Football.

In the past the Disney logo was used as an indicator for prepubescent merchandise. That said, the Star Wars audience is much wider than that.

So why is it showing up on Star Wars stuff?

You're reading way too much into a logo IMO, if you think that.

It's owned by Disney so they can put their logo on it or not as they wish.

I've never seen that said anywhere or known that to be true. Just because it has the mouse on it doesn't mean it's geared towards children.

Because Disney owns it. To be blunt, they can plaster the disney D on the front if they wish,it is probally in the agreement with FFG

That's because Disney owns the rights of Star Wars. It's like pretending to buy a Ford without the Ford logo...

They also own Marvel and don't put it on the back of Marvel, so there's definitely a reason for it.

-Can't recall if the quote's quite correct, but I find myself agreeing with C.S. Lewis there. So what if the Disney logo is generally seen as for children? If anything, putting it on more of their new IPs will help certain people overcome the notion that Disney owning said IPs is a bad thing. So, I'm fine with Disney logos on my toy spaceships, in fact I quite like it.

More like Toyota buying Ford and then sticking both the Ford and Toyota brand on there.

The only reason I can think of is easing out the LFL logo, making it smaller and smaller until nobody notices it disappear.

Just probably some new initiative from Disney to unify their brand. I think it's pretty recent too, I don't remember seeing the disney logo on the FFG news banner from a couple of days ago, but I could have just missed it:

I'd have designed a more badass Disney logo for the things that aren't princesses.

Honestly it's not that bad, it's just the name Disney, and it's no larger than the Lucasflim logo.

The only reason to get upset with this is if you have an issue with Disney for some reason, who have IMO more than proven that they can treat companies they've bought right. They've done no harm to Marvel so far, and Star Wars is much better off now than it was.

Disney has to mark their territory. Everyone else needs to know this is THEIR property.

They could have put the mouse ears. Better still at least Yoko Ono didn't sign mint condition cover of the comic after it the had original artists signatures.

I was just as Disneyland this past weekend, and Disney has put the _fun_ back in Star Wars.

Yes, I got the Mickey Mouse Rogue Squadron pin. And my wife was totally smitten with the stormtrooper "Pew Pew Pew" line. And it is _awesome_ to see stormtroopers wandering the Disney park keeping order and being a bit obnoxious.

Oh! And the "build your own lightsaber" area? Are you kidding me?! I used to have to play KOTOR to do that!

Not to mention turning the Episode 3 opening dogfight into the roller coaster it was always supposed to be.

So yes, Disney is doing some cool things with Star Wars, and I don't mind seeing their logo. In fact: the association between stuff my wife likes (most of Disney, plus all of Marvel), and the stuff I like (Marvel and Star Wars) makes me like the other Disney stuff a bit more also.

I'm not too worried that the addition of a logo will suddenly make people think my buying toys to play starfighters isn't serious business.

Disney doesn't put its mark on Marvel's work? Maybe I'm imagining things but doesn't the Disney castle show up in the intro to all of those Marvel movies?

They probably requested it show up as soon as it could - anything you are seeing without it is probably older inventory of those materials (at least for Star Wars - for Marvel who knows what the agreement is because there is also a Marvel connection with Universal / Sony, etc...)

It's just a logo - it's not even a cutesy logo whatever that might mean - it's literally the signature of an entertainment genius. That's a good name to have on our favorite franchise...

I'm baffled at this whole conversation. We all knew Disney purchased Star Wars back in Oct of 2012 for $4.05 billion dollars. Almost 3 years later and we still have shock over the logo appearing on Star Wars stuff? Lucas became all to aware of the cynical nature of the Star Wars fans. 'Nothing can be done correct' seems to be the motto for the fans. I can only think good'ol George is laughing his ass off as Disney prepares to deal with the onslaught of negative attention the new film will receive.

I for one Love the fact is was Disney who acquired the license. Marvel was a pile of rubbish leading up to their sale and Disney has brought many of these fans back into the fold. Since 2009, Disney has produced some of the finest super hero movies ever made. They have also treated the brand with a lot of respect to the original fan base. If Disney so chooses to put their logo on things so be it.
