Because.... Reasons

better question, why does it matter exactly? what is the problem with it? genuinely curious, not sniping.

OP seems to be embarrassed to play Star Wars RPG if it has the Disney logo...at least that's what I got from the different posts he put out.

People will associate a brand always aimed at children with children?

THE HORROR!

OP No disrespect bro but seriously? The logo being there bothers you? Look, this isn't Disney's fault, this is yours- for believing Disney can only make products for Children.

Look dude, I don't know about you, but Disney has taken up the most beloved science fiction in the world. They know what their target audience is. They know who watches it. Everyone. So they're not going to "target it just towards kids". They're choosing it because it's theirs now, and I could be happier... And here's the funny thing, I'm not even a Disney nut. I never grew up with them, I never rewatched The Little Mermaid over and over, Disney was off my radar for most of my life. I would enjoy the films because they were good, and that was basically it. Still can't stand Disney fans.

But people need to get over this, "Disney is for kids!" mentality. They've been handling Marvel really well for some time. I suppose wanton destruction is for kids.

It's just a logo - it's not even a cutesy logo whatever that might mean - it's literally the signature of an entertainment genius. That's a good name to have on our favorite franchise...

Funny story, Disney actually thought his signature was too terrible for his work, so he had an artist create a distinctive signature for him. This is in that one Disney history book (can't recall the name offhand), and it has his actual signature side by side with the new one. Gotta say, I'm glad he went with the artistic one. It looks WAY better.

Too bad it didn't start that way. The answer to that could be a big old "I don't know." Maybe the agreements are different. Maybe it has something to do with Marvel's movie properties being split up several ways and not wanting to dilute the brand for everyone. I'm not sure but does Disney own ALL of Marvel or just some of the movie rights? You may also want to address my earlier question/statement about Disney actually putting its logo on the Avengers movie in some way.

FOX unfortunately owns Spider Man and The X-Men... And just aren't giving them up.

Which sucks because bleh.

Disney owns Marvel Comics, Marvel Studios and the films rights to all except;

Sony owns film rights to Spiderman and Venom

Fox owns film rights to X-Men and Fantastic Four

Universal owns distribution rights to any solo Hulk films.

I think Universal also owns the film rights to Sub-Mariner for whatever reason.

It's a large mess. *L*

I'm an adult (and have been one for some time), and I still adore visiting the park. I guess that makes me childish and infantile.

I was just as Disneyland this past weekend, and Disney has put the _fun_ back in Star Wars.

Yes, I got the Mickey Mouse Rogue Squadron pin. And my wife was totally smitten with the stormtrooper "Pew Pew Pew" line. And it is _awesome_ to see stormtroopers wandering the Disney park keeping order and being a bit obnoxious.

Oh! And the "build your own lightsaber" area? Are you kidding me?! I used to have to play KOTOR to do that!

Not to mention turning the Episode 3 opening dogfight into the roller coaster it was always supposed to be.

So yes, Disney is doing some cool things with Star Wars, and I don't mind seeing their logo. In fact: the association between stuff my wife likes (most of Disney, plus all of Marvel), and the stuff I like (Marvel and Star Wars) makes me like the other Disney stuff a bit more also.

Did you get a chance to see the Jedi Training Academy? It's quite adorable.

So angry they didn't have this when I was a kid...

Perhaps it's that lack of early training and influence of the light side that pushed me to Imperial loyalty...

I did! All those kids getting tiny lightsabers and beating up Darth Vader! I... I may have felt by biological clock going tick tock. I mean maybe. Shut up. You don't know. You weren't there.

Also: I was in no way jealous of those kids.

Just want to pop in with Disney not being just or kids. They have been producing fiction I enjoyed for near as long as I can remember. The Black Hole was soo good I had the lunch box and the read along Fisher Price record. Yes record, an ancient kind of CD that required physical contact with a needle to produce sounds.

For the past ten years or so they have been in the business of repackaging my childhood and selling it back to me. This is awesome. They also make stuff my kids love, Star Wars stuff, princess stuff and other stuff. All I see is win.

As to the amended question, just wait. Look how long it took them to blur the line between Pixar and Disney.

The difference could be there's not a company called Star Wars making movies and books and video games the way Marvel makes comics and movies and TV shows. Those Star Wars products don't make themselves, so Disney puts their name on it to establish ownership.

Marvel has different merchandising rights. Like someone else posted, Fox owns the X-Brands, Sony owns Spider-Man. Universal Studios has exclusive rights to Marvel theme park rides east of the Mississippi. It's a mess since Marvel was carving stuff up wholesale before Disney took over and are beholden to those contracts.

For the small asking price of 4 billion dollars, Disney owns Star Wars entirely. The only issue they have is distribution rights for A New Hope with 20th Century Fox. So they have paid and earned the right to put their name on their product.

And if the OP really has a problem with Disney using their corporate logo doesn't remember the whoring out of the brand Lucas did with The Phantom Menace. I still have nightmares of Col Sanders, the Taco Bell dog and a random Pizza Hut employee with lightsabers... How was that better?

The Marvel rights are a bit more complicated. Marvel has complete Spider-man merchandise control and profit. It is shared for X-men and Fox, at least when it involves the live action stuff. And Fox still has distrubution rights to all the movies for some time, though the sticking point is that they have ANH in perpuity, whereas the rights have to be reupped for the other five in 2020.

Yeah, you are really selling short just what they bought in that purchase. Everything Lucasfilm, which includes Indiana Jones. And all the companies Lucas still owned, just little ones like ILM and Skywalker Sound.

And the Spider Man rights took a ne twist this pass February. Apparently the web slinger now has a contract similar to the Hulk. Marvel can use Spidey in the Avengers Sony still gets to make Solo films.

I suppect sometime soon we will start seeing a Disney Logo worked into Marvel.

The mouse is in the house and I like it just fine.

:D

And Marvel is seriously in tight with Universal Studios

Marvel can use Spidey in the Avengers Sony still gets to make Solo films.

Actually Marvel gets to make solo Spidey films, but Sony gets 'final creative control' over them. Which I believe means, that Sony gets a cut and lets Marvel do all the work.

Marvel actually had to push some of the Phase 3 stuff out, like Black Panther and the Inhumans to make room for a Spider-man movie. They are thankfully Not doing another origin story.

I'm not too worried that the addition of a logo will suddenly make people think my buying toys to play starfighters isn't serious business.

Indeed. If the Disney logo bothers you that much it's not the logo that's making you look childish. It's same with people that dump on Nintendo for being 'for kids'. No, it's for everyone, there's a difference, and being worried about something not being 'mature' enough just gives off "I'm insecure about my hobbies and worried people will get the wrong idea so it all has to be serious and free of so called 'kiddie' stuff" vibes.

As for Spider-man, he is now in the MCU, Marvel Cinematic Universe in the event someone doesn't know that, and can be used in the Marvel made films. His solo films will be made and distributed by Sony, but will have Marvel providing creative insight. So if they are smart they will let Marvel do their magic and will just produce and sell the film.

Also I think since the Avengers, the point where Disney effectively took control of the films from Paramount, they were putting it in the credits.

The spidey marvel thing makes me laugh.

1) Marvel Licenses spidey to sony

2) Sony sub-licenses the spidey license back to marvel, but still retains the license
