Has anyone given any thought to figures to use? The ships are obvious, but I'm trying to think what models could represent the various RT career paths.
They don't even have to be GW, I guess, but I can't think of any good SciFi minis. Anima maybe?

I've been doing conversions of various 40k figures for years to use in rpg/skirmish type stuff. You really can do wonderful things with some greenstuff and the various plastics from the 40k and fantasy lines. AT-43 has a bunch of good pre-painted figs in the UNA and Red Blok factions that make great guardsmen if you need or want to model some of your flunky armsmen. Some of the characters from those factions wouldn't be bad for pc figs. Also FFG's Tannhauser figures are great to use for lots of things in 40k and they also are pre-painted.
I generally use chess pieces but then I'm incredibly cheap like that. Your milage may vary.
For 28mm, start with the Necromunda line and convert from there. As always, tech priests make good... tech priests/explorators. Imperial Guard has astropath models. There are no navigator models that I know of, but some putty work can change that. Imperial Guard/Witch Hunters have priests/missionaries. Appropriate seneschal and voidmaster models depend on your character, start with necromunda, IG, WH, and DH.
Your rogue trader will be the hardest... Maybe convert some Warhammer Fantasy Empire models?
For my Rogue Trader I was thinking of using the model in the middle, give it a few of the extras from a commisar, epulets and so on mode the face a bit make him a little younger and with a scoundrel goatee, gotta have a scoundrel goatee.

the officer of the fleet?...actually thats a pritty **** good idea
I know, I have them from time to time, it's rare, but it happens... BTW My sister will probably be joining the game as well and knowing her she will try and to some extend ressurect her first starwars character (a lady adventurer... read smuggler) any ideas for a female type mini with that type of dress?
BTW this one isn't too bad either:

GHASP! I found it... The penultimate Rogue Trader... I claim this one as mine:

I figured I'd use the Advisors, maybe some of the assassins and Inquisitors. The problem with the Necromunda line is it's very expensive and unless I'm ebaying one figure at a time, I have to buy entire gangs.
I didn't even think about looking at Privateer Press, they have a lot of decent ones I could convert pretty easily.

Thanks, with a little modding it might work, wanna make sure it gets the pirate princess look right, think thats what shes gonna aim for, but minnies are hard gonna be running a game with almost only girls in the group so I might be skipping the minnies for now just cus finding good ones would be a headache. GW - could you please support these games w some minnies .
If it's mostly girls, try Anima.
Just use lego figures, you can buy bucket loads of em

I'm planning on converting a Necromunda Kal Jericho model into a Rogue Trader. The model doesn't look much like the Kal Jericho artwork anyway, but is dressed properly for the part of an RT. The only problem is whoever sculpted the model didn't look at the scale of other 40k/necromunda models at all. He's a good head taller than most Necromunda and Imperial Guard models, and a bit taller than many Space Marine in Power Armor models. So he looks kind of strange w/ other models.
I like some of the ideas, especially using chess peices/lego figures lol. I would almost use a commisar for the RT himself, though i dont know why.
Well the GW minies lack some dashing scoundrel to really get the RT feel, too stocky and depressive, would be great to see the boys in Nott's actually pull their stuff together and start making decent minnies again its like all the models have the same face and build, humanity is a bunch of clones (some of the new cathan's are awesome, I will say that).

The Emprie Free Company boxed set has a lot of bits you could use for a rogue trader. Especially the clothing. All it needs is just a few additional details since the Free Companies clothing are a bit bland. But sculpting such details from green stuff shouldn't be too hard.
That is not available individually, only through the box set.
However, there are several models in there than can and have represented players in our group.
Also, thanks for the idea of PP... that will make one awesome Rogue Trader or Seneschal.

That's a NICE mini.
I do a lot of converting. It's amazing the variety of minis you can make with a box or three of Imperial Guard, some guitar string and some green stuff. GW is rather sparse on females and civilians though.
They used to make some nice civilian minis (scientists, RT's, bounty hunters etc.) and the old Confrontation line (which was the predecessor to the Necromunda line) has some lovely minis which can often still be found on Ebay.
If converting is your thing, try combining Cadian legs with an un-armored tank crew torso and/or arms. If you don't need a Baneblade, they sell (most) of the sprues seperately. Flatten out a bit of green stuff for a "skirt" and suddenly he's got greatcoat.

There's a really nice female! Just chop the guns off and insert weapons of your choice from the Bitz Box...

And if you decide to run someone with dual archeotech laspistols, she's fantastic out of the blister - good find!

See, Cervantes, we can get along.
Listen, I'm just frustrated it's not out yet. It's not a crime.
I'll stop bitching about the Release Date if you can your insults, deal?
Truce? We're on the same side here.
A lot of these models have serious potential.

I saw some others that were quite good. I'll report back when I remember the name of the company that makes them.
