Max's fleet

By MaxTeranous, in Star Wars: Armada

Ive been a fairly regular mini painter for far too many years now, mostly GW and Mantic figures. I've never played a prepainted game before (X-Wing never took my fancy) but i was always planning on doing a touchup on the Armada ships and ofc painting the fighters.

So far i've touched up the Rebel ships. It's a Nuln oil wash with a bunch of GW layer paints for highlighting the specific areas. I like bright highlights and strong contrasts, hence i've taken the light greyish areas all the way to white in places.

I'm not a huge fan of seeing the peg holding the ship through the clear stand, so pondering painting the clear pole black. Undecided on that one so far tho, definately want to keep the base itself clear.

Looks great. Did you water down the Nuln Oil at all?

Thanks !

Nope, neat from the pot. In a few instances i blacklined within a crevice to make it even darker than the wash to get the wanted contrast, but the vast majority of the shading is ink,

Finished the Victory list night. Not gone mad with a total repaint, just a wash and highlighting what's already there in the main. I did add a few more dark patches to break up the similar greys abit more tho:

Next up, TIE Fighters I think !

WOW! Well done man.

I find my Nuln oil pots shade the surfaces way too dark. I can't stand it. I've started making my own washes with a dab of black paint (citadel's at the moment) and Golden brand Airbrush Thinner Medium. It acts like a panel line wash, and really keeps from darkening the raised surfaces. Just darkens the crevasses nicely. I'd definitely recommend trying it out - and don't use the liquitex brand, it's too glossy/rubbery/thick.

Really like your victories! Therye my favorite so far XD

Got less painting done in the past month that i planned, Wargames shows (Salute & Triples) nicked a couple of weekends and these TIE's took way longer than I thought they would, but finally here's the finished Core set TIE Fighters:

As you can see, there was abit of an episode 7 influence :) Once the first models were done, being able to see the tab within the clear pole annoyed me so went with a black spray. Then, i decided the pole being black & bases being clear didn't work, so it's now black all the way. Finally I painted the edges of the cardboard parts also for the finished look.

I've bought both of the wave 1 Imperial ships and 2 boxes of Imperial Squadrons, so next up is either the Gladiator or the TIE Bombers. Love abit of Rhymer.....

Those are excellent! Thank you for sharing XD

I was getting a sense that the panels in episode 7 were almost clear. Good work.

And the Gladiator is done ! Now i've played a couple of games with Wave 1 in hand, I'm thinking this guy might get a twin brother pretty soon.....

Or would it be twin sister???

And alongside my 1st Victory, now with a black base & stand:

I want to repaint my SDs but I'm afraid of killing off it's "Imperial" atmosphere

A couple more games, including proxying a Glad convinced me to pick up a 2nd Gladiator, which the past week has been painted up along with my 2nd Victory. So all my ships are now painted:

So, 4 of each Imperial Squadron and 4 X-wings left on the painting list !

You could also use the old toothbrush bristle flicking technique to create "stars" on the stands and bases. I have
