Who thinks the Warlocks Quests are too simple/boring?
A replacement for "deliver 1 Fate" has been posted for review HERE .
Going back to the Sentinel for a second (although he has nothing to do with the thread topic as such), I just played a game with my wife. She had been on the middle region for ages, while I was struggling to find a way across. I was the Thief, but couldn't land on the Village to steal a raft or axe, couldn't land on the Tavern and when I did, couldn't roll a 6 for the boatman, and was rapidly running out of time as my wife had already tried twice to enter the inner region and got booted out both times- but she was going back for a third. I had built up 13 str and 13 cr, including weapons, objects, and followers- much better than her 10 str and 8 cr. So I thought "sod it" and fought the Sentinel to cross the bridge, succeeding in the process. As I said before, all other ways are not always available, and so the quicker way has to be the toughest to give you some kind of choice to make- risk going for it early, or risk holding off till later for an easier approach. I didn't have time, so I took the fight to him and won. See, the Sentinel plays his part just fine imo. The only thing I don't like is that if you are concentrating on building up Craft- then you won't stand much of a chance against him in Battle.
By the way, regarding my game- my wife reached the CoC while I was at the Mines, and every turn her CoC spell succeeded. However, I had the Runesword which gave me life after a successful battle, and so gained another 4 lives from the Pit Fiends, before having the final showdown with my wife at the CoC!! It was awesome! Every turn I beat her either in Battle or Psychic Combat, and she didn't stand a chance! My Thief killed her Dwarf and I stood the victor. The best game of Talisman I have played so far, and far more satisfying than the Dragon King finalé of the 3rd ed. Love it!

It looks fun to play with the Thief.
Stealing mules easily, and rafts to go to the other side..
It seems your wife was out of luck..( because she can draw more cards in the middle region..
Still, you have become more powerful than her..
It's all about the random of cards
I know that the COC can be exiting, but i like the Dragon Tower more
Due because it's a new board with new challenges and new encounters and a Dragon on the top
She did have bad luck, as she kept getting cards that would boost her fate, gold, and lives, but got a few enemies that was too strong for her to begin with and not enough enemies to level up, unlike myself. However, I had a bit of bad luck myself, with a whirlwind blowing my objects away all over the board, and a horse thief pinching my thief's mule- the nerve!!! However I pinched another mule from the village, collected my objects again, killed the enemies that was too strong for my wife, and the rest is history.
I would like to try the Dragon Tower, but it looks so hard to get hold of now (only seeing one second hand one on eBay without the dragon) and besides, I only want to buy for this 4th ed now. You must surely agree though Velhart, the 4th ed inner region and CoC is much better than the 3rd's Dragon King cards in its base set, yes?

Hi Wastedyuthe,
well, to be honest......No
For me, the Dragon tower is the ultimate ending to end the game.
The inner region in 4th is always the same, and the Dragon Tower is a new board, where you must also draw cards, and you battle the dragon at the top of the tower..
It's not about that the Crown is not exciting, but i don't like that ending...
So i am happy that we get 3 different ending cards with the frostmarch expansion.
But i still hope, that the Dragon Tower will come in the future. That Tower must be really huge, because the board in 4th is larger than the 3th.
I, on the other hand, like the race-aspect that currently is the only ending. Someone at the Crown, you still have a shot at reaching them. PvP endings are the best type of ending (hence, not too excited about Ice Queen or Warlock's Quest endings, though haven't seen the full texts). Mind you, not saying I don't want "Horrible Black Void" or something like that in the future
.

I didn't say "Dragon Tower"- I said the 4th edition CoC was better than the 3rd editions "Dragon King cards in its base set", NOT the Dragon Tower extention. We all know how much you LOVE the Dragon Tower!

Oh you are right,
You mean the tower cards from the base game..
Difficult to say...
If i must choose between those two, then i will choose for the crown ending BUT that's only because both games have the same spaces or card(third edition) all over again..
Fighting only a dragon card, is not very exciting, then the crown ending is more exciting.
But Dragon tower expansion is something else...
I can't believe i am saying that !
PS: don't ask me that i will choose for the Crown ending instead of the Ice Queen or Warlock cards, because whatever happens, i will choose for those 2 endings
More new replacement quests can be found throughout THIS TOPIC . Please feel free to critique and offer suggestions for changes or new quests.
You will notice there are more options for PvP in these; at certain stages in completing a quest there is the possibility now to steal something important to someone else's quest and complete it yourself to get the reward.
There are also some compound cards that aren't a quest but influence one; when you draw them, you keep them and draw another card/quest and the two cards combine to influence how you complete a quest.
Special Adventure cards for getting a quest from elsewhere beyond the Warlock's cave are also planned to mix things up even more these "task" (versus purchase/trade) oriented quests.
Once enough have been completed to replace all the standard quests, I will package them together with instructions and place them collectively for download at Talismanisland.com... and directly from my own link.
Now that the new Warlock cards from Frostmarch are added to the game, we can't say anymore, that they are simple. ( that's a good point.)

I think that the most difficult quests are that you must hunt for certain enemies..
And that you must discard, objects, weapons, armour, and followers, can be really nasty.. ( but if you have enough gold..
True, the discards could be painful, but they're still trades, and with Frostmarch there's a definite shift of proportion between [Magic] Objects and Enemies. I suppose that does help with these new quests, having proportionally more items to trade that are mixed in with earlier ones. But things like Visit the Alcemist don't make sense; you turn something over and get a Gold, then instantly teleport to get a Talisman... if you aren't playing the Warlock endgame. Still too simpley simply and you're getting the potent magic item for winning the game by selling off any low need item you might have sold anyway... so you get a Gold as well.
Killing a Dragon is good, since it is hard to find one by the odds, and its usually a tough Battle. I'm not sure what the Roll 1 Die is about. Maybe it is a compounder card, where you draw it and have to roll a die to draw another real quest?

I think it's the normal warlock cave rule from the main board.
Roll a die and accept the quest that is stated on the warlocks cave..

Ummm... I hope not. That would be lame.

i agree
Maybe that they thought to add the old rule from the warlock cave as a card too..
If it is true, then it looks like, that you must remember your quest too..
Well, Warlock Quest Cards are optional based off the rules sheet and they also list different variants on there uses. What intrests me the most is the Treasure Rewards Variant. I would use this variant with a slight modification: At the begining of the game all players draw 4 quests. All 4 quests have to be completed before going for the win and when you have completed the last quest you may get a talisman or draw 1 treasure from treasure deck.

That's a much better option than "magically" dumping more Treasures into the game through each individual quest card. But in the four quest option, I believe those four quests are the only way to get a Talisman and get into the CoC? If so, then taking the Treasure would be counter productive to winning the game... or am I missing something? I've assumed all the Talismans are removed from the Adventure deck at the start of play using the Warlocks Quest endgame.

JC,
No, you can still get a Talisman if you complete the 5th, 6th, 7th etc quest.
No, all the Talismans in the adventure deck will remain ( nothing is said about that in the rules, besides, it's more difficult to draw them if 84 cards will be added to the game.

About the treasure cards...
I will play like the normal way to get them, by defeating the LOD as it should be..
Thanks for the clarification, V. Indeed, since no new Talisman's are in Frostmarch, that means the Talisman reward is likely to be sought more often in the latter half of the game but less often in the first half of the game. In the first half, adventurers will likely want any "beefying up" option instead. Although, with four Quests to complete, it will take a while, possibly into that latter half of the game in some cases. But I'm still with you on the access to Treausures; make them earn them vs. those simple Quests.
