Recommend 'tackle box' for 2 core sets worth of pieces?

By Grand Marshal, in Star Wars: Armada

Hello everyone!

I'm relatively new to miniatures gaming and have found myself with a lot of bits and pieces from owning two Armada core sets. Would any of you recommend a hobby 'tackle box' (so-to-speak) to organize all these pieces? I'm looking for something that I could fit in my 'battle bag', so something around 13 inches wide x 7 inches deep.

Thanks for any ideas!

I am using the box it came with to store my 2 core sets. I have seen someone use a Blue Plano case for their miniatures.

I've got a plano 1374 that I'm using for x-wing, but I'm afraid that the larger ships for armada won't fit inside, so I'm wondering whether the modular toolbox route + self-trimmed foam might be a better way to go for this one.

Great info guys, thanks for the input! The Plano stuff looks top notch, this one also comes recommended: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Plano-Guide-Series-Drawer-Box/13283387

The Vics are tricky. I ended up purchasing a generic (maybe?) battle bag from miniatures market with battle foam to keep those little antenna from becoming bent or broken.

PS - I'm pretty sure it was Crabbok (youtube) who recommended that double sided one. It also looks like a good one!

Yup, that's the one I justgot for Imperial Assault. A whoooole lot of guys around here got that style for X-wing and Trek-wing. Thinking about moving my X-wing out of it's current setup into more of these so I can salvage the larger box for Armada. Darn ting is it might actually be too roomy and with the lack of lateral dividers just break the figs as they bounce around. Best part on these tower style ones? For 2.50$ you can send away for a little name plate. I had them write Imperial Assault on mine :D

Would you have a link or place for me to look for the custom nameplate service? That's just too nerd-glorious to not check in on. :D

This one might work.Similar style to what I just got for imp assault and many use for X-wing, but this one has deep trays. http://planomolding.com/index.php/hardware/storage-systems/137230.html

This one too http://planomolding.com/index.php/hardware/storage-systems/136330.html

I like the deeper trays in both of those options, probably leaning toward the 136330 just due to the smaller tray to handle chits/maneuver tool/range ruler.

When you buy the case, open it up and inside should be a product registration card and form. Then just fill it out and send it in making sure to fill in the line that will have your nameplate phrase on it. I reccommend checking the case while your at the store to make sure it actually has the little piece of paper, sometimes they wander off. Then Plano will send you your plate. When I get a chance I'll post pics. Alternatively their customer service line may be able to help too.

Anyone grab any of these cases? If so, how're you liking them for storage?

I have been using one Armada box to store all the components from two core sets. I'll probably stick with this until Wave 1 is released, and I can customize some foam trays for my Battlefoam bag. One core set box is plenty big for all the components for two sets, though. I didn't even remove the cardboard insert. I cut one of the plastic ship holding inserts to half the height, and it fits neatly into all that space below a normal one. Then I saved all the little baggies that come with the sets to store and organize all the tokens and dials and such. The squadron and ship bases sit assembled, on top of all those baggies, in the space inside the cardboard insert. Then the range rulers and 2 maneuver tools (one of which I only assembled to speed 2) sit on top of the instruction books. It is snug, but that is perfect, so things aren't sliding around too much. And if I really needed more space, I could double it by removing that cardboard insert.
