Sucky Dice Rolls

By Omnislash024, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

My heroes in this campaign I'm currently soloing have had the absolute worst dice rolls imaginable. During this campaign I've turned up three secret rooms and have not come out with a single piece of loot. This third time, I got a card that wanted me to roll a grey defense and get Search cards for how many Shields rolled. It came up blank. So finished up Masquerade Ball, rescued 3 out of 4 guests. Rolled 4 on the Black die and lost. During a quest in this campaign, Reynhart rolled an X on his original attack, rolled an X again for the Hero Ability and rolled a THIRD X after triggering his heroic feat. On top of that, my Geomancer always rolls X whenever I need to pop Quaking Word. I've had normal and hard hitting attacks canceled by 3 Shield rolls on one grey defense, have rolled virtually no defense on hard hitting attacks. If this was a campaign actually being played by a few people, I would imagine there would be feeling some major frustration.

That happens with dice, sometimes. If you're worried about how they're being thrown/rolled, use an app for rolling- that should at least give you a reasonably random sampling of results. Even so, over the course of a quest you roll dice what... 50 times total? That's not enough to get a statistical distribution- fluctuations happen.

Your story in one image.

Yep. The heroes lost the second encounter.... off dice rolls. Eliza was at the last door, failed her roll to open it. Then Ashrian barely manages to catch up, throws blinding powder... and fails. ( which rarely happens.) Next turn, Eliza is through the door.

Play Dead of Winter, the exposure dice is the most hated game component of all times, although it's only a 1/12 chance to get bitten. And there is stone nothing you can do about it when it occurs. The cross on the Descent attack dice is a cute kitten compared to that :)

THIS... is so true !!!

God, I tossed my dice across the room . I was So. Ticked. OFF! Enter Room of Souls. Every **** hero missed. No blast attack. Tahra rolled X twice! Grisban only hit for 3 heart and the monster rolled 3 shield. I lost it. I'm buying new dice cause these ones are crap.

There are a couple free apps ( at least on androi) which are very handy for rolling. While playing solo, I have been known to do a few electronic rerolls when the real dice are being annoying.

I'll admit a few times when playing solo co-op,

I've thrown some rolls that made me just end the game and say:

'So tomorrow, it starts with the heroes turn'.

What are the names of those free apps?

The "Descent Dice Companion" is a pretty good one- you can create and save dice sets to roll (which is done by a click or by shaking the phone) and it has probability tables. Another one I really like is "Descent Tower" which was developed by a user on BGG, but I don't know if it's actually on the play store yet.

Yup. The dice have ended games for me.
