Newbie Rules Question 402,258

By Dobralov, in Cosmic Encounter

I apologize if this has been answered elsewhere in this forum.

My question involves discarding of encounter cards:

The rules call for the offense to play or discard any non-encounter cards, draw eight new cards, and continue his turn if he has no cards at the beginning of his turn. Defenders must similarly discard when they are required to play an encounter card but cannot. In either case, does "discarding or playing any non-encounter cards" mean discarding all artifacts and flares?

Thank you for the clarification,

Dobralov

Yes, and also Reinforcements. Note that there are some Flare effects which specifically go off when someone is forced to redraw their hand (Wild Miser is one that comes to mind), so that can be played just prior to discarding one's hand and redrawing.

Not sure what about "non-encounter" was confusing, as encounter cards are defined as red Attacks, green Negotiates, and the red-green Morph.

It's a logical leap that I was able to make, yes, but sometimes FFG's games suffer from confusing ambiguities (think Arkham Horror) and long FAQs. Just wanted to be sure!

Thank you!

Here's hoping that Cosmic Incursion will reintroduce the Keeper Edit (are they still called Edits? What are they now, Artifacts?)!

Or Hand Zap. That would be a bit more useful with the eight-card hands.

They used to be called EdiCts, as in "a proclamation having the force of law." Now they are indeed called Artifacts.

Hand Zap? What is that one? Something from Mayfair?
