Hill Giant and Elemental

By Nosaj Verush2, in Battlelore

I know this is odd, but I have had BL for a while and am just now really getting in to it. Really like it. Wasn't sure how to us the hill giant and elemental, but figured it would come clear in Call to Arms. It did not. How do you work them in to a game other than just cookin something up on your own.

You use them just like you use the Spider. 1 council level. However, the Giant gets his lair placed under him, while the EE is not placed on the board, but instead his summoning circle is.

So does it matter that the spider is a green creature and they are blue creatures? Shouldn't they cost more?

Nope. Same price. The only creatures we know if that cost more will be the blue Ice Dragon and the red Fire Dragon. Everyone else is level 1. They might seem much stronger then the spider at first glance, but spidey has her strong points as well (incredible speed, partially immune to battlebacks).

That is crazy that they are all the same cost. Is the troll a cheap creature too in that it costs the same as the spider?

Actually the Hill Giant's Rock Pile and the Summoning Circle are placed like any landmark. They do not start the game "under" anything.

RE: Troll...

The Troll card says he is a Level 1 creature. Therefore if you include him in your army (via CtA) you must use one War Council seat as a creature token.

Thank you very much!

I am not 100% sure for the Hill Giant, but you are wrong with regards to the Summoning Circle. It is not placed like a landmark, but like the creature itself. So it is placed on the creature spot as indicated on the card in the CtA setup.

You are both half right ;) Creature Lairs are normally placed during the Landmark phase of setup (though they are not technically landmarks), and therefore not normally placed underneath any units, unless there are special rules to a particular adventure allowing that to occur. However, the Earth Elemental's Summoning Circle is not placed as a normal creature lair and is instead placed at the time one would normally place the creature itself (which, in most games is just directly before the Landmarks/Creature Lairs are placed). I assume the same will be true for the Rock Elemental's summoning circle.

My bad. I had not read the Elemental exception anywhere.

I'm working on a comprehensive rules project and I will be sure to note that.

This is different from the FAQ as this would be complete step by step instructions without examples to remove ambiguity (similar to the real MTG rules).

Hopefully I'll finish it soon cause all the varied places you have to look to find the right answer can get cumbersome.

I hope FFG picks up the Lore Compendium and Creature Compendium that DoW had begun. Currently versions of them reside on BattleLoreMaster.com in the Downloads section of the Guild. (Thank you, Gerald and Unihead :) )
