You try to disengage. What happens?
Your GM slaps you and tells you to move your mini back into place.
So you`re saying I basically auto-fail whatever roll I'd usually have to do?
No, you just have to make a WP-test if you want to disengage or back out of a fight,
"...but disengaging from combat or backing down from a fight is difficult for them to stomach, and as such requires a successful Willpower Test." - OW core p. 144

So I only have to do one roll?
Being serious now, I personally would only make it the one Willpower test to do it, but, I find it very unfaithful to the character you're playing to retreat from battle.
Disengage from melee as in the combat action, or retreat from the fight entirely?
I have to admit, I take a bit of a different approach with the Fearless rule, and generally state that its only a WP test for the character to undergo a series of actions that will end with them leaving the battle with the enemy still alive. The description of DKoK talks about "retreating," and Fearless only uses lowercase "disengage" (so its not technically talking about the Disengage action). I'm OK with people backing up in order to shoot the enemy with a better weapon.
So if you're just trying to DIsengage so you can shoot the enemy instead of be in melee, if I was GMing your game, there would be no WP test. If you tried to turn tail and run, there would be a WP test.
On the whole though, the interaction of these rules is still annoying. I'd still say its just one test, whichever is worse.
Edited by KommissarKI was posting under the impression that disengage was being used with the meaning of retreating. Backing out of melee combat in order to bring your gun to bear seems perfectly acceptable to me.
