First time painting minis. Rebel ships started

By willismaximus, in Star Wars: Armada

So, I was a SW minis (WOTC) veteran, and recently decided to get back into the game community. SW minis was all pre-painted, so I was interested in getting to try my hand a bit with the Armada minis. I did some research (have zero xp with painting,) bought some basic supplies (acrylic paint, nuln oil wash, tiniest effing brushes I've ever seen in my life), and here are my preliminary results. Let me know what you guys think.

Xwings: ignore the copious amount of gray on that one little guy. First attempt, got carried away. Only squad I have done, red squad. All astromechs are different colors. Finished with black wash.

For the caps, just used a wash to try and get some depth out of them. Nuln oil may have been a mistake over the whole thing. Like i said, new to this . . .

Any suggestions please tell me. I would like to learn something before continuing with the rest.

The Nuln Oil treatment looks like a great improvement to my eye. In addition to bringing out more detail, it helps give the Rebel ships the weathered and battered look they need.

How did you apply the nuln oil, did you just cover the ships with them? Did you water them down at all? I think it looks nice, and I want to try this out with my ships.

That is a first attempt! The look great! You should have seen my first paint job!!! XD. As for improving, ask a lot of questions, get a lot of practice, and look at many tutorials!
