Troubles at the Town of Thila - Adventure Advice

By Ebak, in Game Masters

Hey all! Since many are sharing adventure ideas I thought I would offer my own which I plan on doing for my current Tuesday group.

My group has gone through several iterations as players have left and joined, here is the roster of past and present characters.

Liakorral - Female Wookiee - Hired Gun (Marauder) - Died Heroically in a battle against the Empire.

Kinsa - Female Twi'Lek - Technician (Outlaw Tech) - Retired, left the party to set up her own information broker network.

Craddosk - Male Trandoshan - Hired Gun (Marauder), Force Sensitive Emergent - Retired, left the group to look after his remaining family.

Liliana - Female Chiss - Explorer (Archeologist), Force Sensitive Emergent - Killed in battle against the Empire.

Batto - Male Toydarian - Explorer (Trader), Entrepreneur, Quatermaster - The face of the group, always looks for the credits in any opportunity. The unofficial leader of the group

Mal - Male Corellian Human - Smuggler (Pilot), Heavy - The pilot and sharpshooter of the group, has just recently killed a man to whome he owed a lot of money (and in the process blew up the Jewel of Yavin)

Alyssia Nyx - Colonist (Doctor), Scout - The doctor of the group, was just revealed to be a Rebel Agent placed to gather intelligence on the Empire's activities on the rim.

Hex (TG-13) - Male Experimental Clone - Bounty Hunter (Gadgeteer) - An ex stormtrooper who left the Empire several years ago. Lately his belief in the Empire has swayed away from the positive and with the collapse of the Bounty Hunters guild, is searching for a new purpose in life. Was recently cured of a genetic disease.

The players are currently involved in their first major battle with the Empire and are about to suffer another loss in the form of Liliana, the youngest member of the party. The Rebel Alliance have told them they discovered the wreck of a freighter that was bound for Thila, a small planet just inside Wild Space. The cargo is standard supplies that a town would need, food, medicine, goods etc. and the team have been tasked with delivering it for the Rebels since its the right thing to do.

My plan is to turn the campaign to focus on the town, many players have discussed that the traveling around is wearing thin and they want to settled down. They really don't want to throw in with the Rebellion yet, they feel its too dangerous and is not the thing to do.

Upon entering atmosphere they will be attacked by pirates, the pirates have been after the settlement of Thila for sometime now because it stands right on top of a deposit of Cortosis ore. After shooting the PC's ship out of the sky, the PC's are rescued at the last minute by some TIE Fighters and Interceptors that have had their weapons removed and replaced with grapples.

Being dropped off at a farm in the country of Thilia they discover that their saviours are ex Imperials who defected from the Empire and settled here to get away from the war. They say they will help the PCs by repairing their ship while the PCs deliver the cargo to town.

Upon arriving they are greeted by the Sheriff, CT-7567 also known as Rex. The PCs are astounded by the resemblance between Hex and Rex. The PCs are welcomed to town and their community, many of them needing medical aid from the doctor and wondering what the merchant has for them. The PCs see how the townsfolk revere Rex and although he is only the Sheriff they hang on his every word, even the mayor seems to consult with him. Eventually they are invited to have a drink with Rex in his small office. The office is attacked by the Pirates who have come to take the town for themselves. In the ensuing explosion the PCs miraculously survive, but Rex lays dying as he begs Hex to switch with him, to bury him as Hex and to take his place as Sheriff of the town.

Should he agree, they eventually take out the Pirates, however it was only a representative and it is revealed to be a part of the Zann Consortium.

From this point I assume the players will stay on the planet (although that may happen). I will have some quiet sessions that revolve around the town, with weeks, even months passing in between. Mal has become accustomed to making supply runs for the colony (with the occasional smuggling job, much to Hex's annoyance). Hex maintains peace and assists with running the colony. Batto has set up a little store and pays Mal to bring in wears (for a pittance compared to what the locals pay him for the goods). The doctor has become the towns physician and is scouting the planet out as a potential Rebel sanctuary.

Long term plan is to have the Zann Consortium come a calling which leads to a party split. One group is captured and the town is held hostage under martial law while the thugs have their way with the town, wrecking the place as they set up for a future mining operation. The group inside the town plotting with the townsfolk to liberate the settlement from within or escape.

It's at this point the other half realise what has happened back at town (they were on a job out of town when the attack took place) however they find themselves outmatched when they scout the town on a nearby mound. This is when one of the ex-Imperials invites them to the farm. He blindfolds them and takes them out into the desert. Hidden inside one of the hollow canyons sits the real reason they escaped.

Project: Wraith was an experimental program in the Empire to create the first starfighter with a cloaking device, now officially called "The TIE Phantom" officially by the Empire, this group of scientists and pilots who had grown to oppose the Empire stole the prototype and have hidden it here ever since. With "The Wraith" the assault team can even the odds against the Pirates air support and provide confusion for the ground team to liberate the town once again.

Of course this may all go well....but spies are everywhere...and eventually the Empire will come for what was once taken from them...

I would appreciate any feedback people have. I obviously know there is no predicting players and what they will do. I do make a lot of assumptions, but this is the "If things go the way I think they will".

Sounds great to me, really liking the idea of the prototype Tie Fighter! If u need any inspiration for your town check out old episodes of Deadwood... It may be a western (of sorts) but it's got a great feel that I think slots really well into Edge of the Empire!

Thanks, once the TIE Phantoms stats were revealed in Stay on Target, I knew I had to find an adventure where I could give it to the PC's...and then take it away. :P

I've decided that the town of Thila is a group of independent travellers who bought their own ships to the wild space planet and simply landed. Over the years the ships have sunk into and become part of the landscape, plants growing up and around the landing skids, some are even now at ground level. Some of the ships have been severely modified, but the idea is that the towns buildings are simply ships people are using.

Town hall/warehouse is a Warfarer-class Medium Transport.

I like it the idea of a town of ships as buildings lots of possibilities for stories just from that.

I feel like ill be running my game opposite in that, my characters will mostly be stuck in one system until they can do enough to afford a ship.

Then they will still just do minor missions until it ramps up to them probably doing some major space battle of Independents versus the Empire.
