How long does your average game takes?

By Baak, in X-Wing

The other night I played a casual game at home. Few beers, few burgers, few laughs. You know the setting :)

Altough we played on a good pace, the game took roughly 2-2,5 hours. The box/reviews say an average game takes 1 to 1,5 hours. Im just curious: what's your average time for a casual 100 points 2-player game?

For experienced players, expect 45 to 90 minutes when using 100-point squads.

For new players, it can take much longer. You'll get faster as you get more familiar with it.

Yeah, 45 to 90, depending on number of ships in play.

Casual laid-back; 60-90 minutes. Unless alcohol makes us even more laid-back. ;)

If you make an effort you can easily fit in a game in 60-75 minutes without feeling rushed.

My buddy and I usually take over 2 hours to finish a 100 point match, but that includes time to build a squad because we almost never plan ahead.

45-60 minutes usually at 100-150pts longest game recently was outrider vs autoceptors ran about 90 minutes.

At a tournament, never more than 75 min since that's the time limit. In a more casual setting I would guess anything from 15-90 minutes. Sometimes you make such horrible mistakes during the first two turns that you are ready to concede in just 15 min. Of course this is only game time, when including list building, set up and packing stuff up after a game it can take much longer.

Average game is about 2 hours. I like to play things nice and relaxed... :)

I usually theorise a few lists in advance, and if you're organised you can do 3 games in about 3-4 hours depending.

45 minutes currently.

Wow, i guess I'll have to speed things up then :)

30 mins to an hour.

Rarely more than an hour.

if im playing my mate sam, two hours as he takes forever to set his dials and talks a lot :)

As long a you're having fun (and its not an official event), take as long as you want! :)

This weekend I played my first game against an opponent I HADN'T known for at least 10 years, and it took about 90 minutes.

My mate Rob is always checking his phone, social bugger why can't he be more like the rest of us.

Games CAN take quite a while if you play all the way to the end game with both opponents having their end game ships. I've had many games last 2 hours. A lot of times games that aren't complete washes (one player rolls really hot red dice and mauls the opponent in no time), can really take a while. If green dice are hot and red dice are not, things just don't die.

I always recommend a timer, even for casual games. That way you don't spend 40 minutes hunting down one ship that inevitably has little chance of victory. However, I DO suppose there is some value in playing it out, since epic comebacks are REALLY fun, for both parties some times.

This is exactly what happend: a lot of hot green dice and the end game took roughly 40 minutes. Perhaps a good idea to set a timer. Btw, what do you do when the timer runs out? Count points left on the table and most points left wins?

Soontir with autothrusters can be painful in an untimed match. Same can also apply to IG88s with autothrusters in the endgame. There are actually quite a few ships/upgrades that can really make the game a long-drawn affair. I have actually begun to aim my builds towards being offensive rather than defensive because it´s more fun being able to complete games in tournaments and play more matches when playing casually.

We do sometimes time our casual games just to get an idea of how we'd stand at the end of a tournament round, especially if we're playing a build we plan on taking to a tourney.

90 mins and although I love the game I think it takes too long. this is way I don't play epic.

30 minutes? Really? Wow. I've played probably over 200 games (most of my playgroup has at least that number and some twice that, and no one is really slow). I've had maybe a handful of games that have been 30-35 minutes of playtime (not including setup). I've played that last 45 minutes, but even that's at from the start of the first planning phase and doesn't include setup.

I think the back of the box is about right on average if you include setup time and have experience playing.

I've had short games where the first turn is so brutal the other guy cant recover this one time i killed two interceptors and a tiefighter in the first turn of shooting leaving just two academy ties alive, it happens.

Depends on what list I'm playing.

If my list has only 3 and 4-dice attacks, it might take 30 mins-1 hour.

If my list is mostly 2 dice attacks, it can take 2+ hours.

I'm trying to move away from those 2-dice lists.

A 30 minute game is ususally one where one side takes a serious hammering quite early on with a good red/bad green roll, i honestly dont think many games take more than an hour.

So shortest 30 mins, longest about an hour

average about 45 minutes

Not including set up, i epect people to turn up knowing what they are going to play and i've usually got the table out, mat down and everything ready to play bar their sideboard and any terrain

My buddy and I time our games to 60 minutes to get as many games in as possible. We are also constantly practicing for tournaments, so we play 100 point games. We need to play fast enough that 60 minutes will be enough time. Some games are finished within 30 minutes, others could potentially go as long as 90+ minutes but since we always time it to 60 minutes we usually just determine the winner after 60 minutes are up. Sometimes we finish it out.
