OK HC, nice try on baiting me to make a point.
It really doesn't matter. To me Pauls support is pretty awesome gameplay wise....but since I can't understand what point your trying to make....I'll just grin and keep rolling.

If there's one artist I'd want FFG to keep working with, it's Gonzalo Ordonez, the guy who did Elena's and some of Hilde's art. I think his art just rocks! And he also does other card games (his art's on DeviantArt, look for Genzoman)
I agree 100% with what GraveLord and ROTBI are saying. The new art is so bad I feel ashamed to have the cards in my house. Never in my life would I expect an entire set of Military Ranks and Experienced Combatants, but alas I was mistaken. Just because independant artists are cheaper doesn't mean the worst ones should be picked. For instance, the artist who did Zhao Diayu's and Basara's support is pretty good. Those cards have a strong, crisp look to them. More like that, less like Tekken 6, please!

Random fact: He also did many of the newer load screens for World of Warcraft.

I don't wan't to return to the days of running characters. Characters SHOULD be used to stack (something only Jin, Kazuya, and Astrid care about so far); the fact that they are used as 6 checks with no blocks OUGHT to be because there aren't currently cards with such stats, not becuase there NEVER will be.
But blah, I still have a shitload of fun, I just miss blocking, and wish it mattered =/
There are plenty of reasons to run char blocks now
Omar runs em for easier tutoring of moves
kazuya support for damage pump and mo easier blocks
Heiachi turns em into 6 damage pump

You're absolutely right Thai. The game is not the same as it used to be for me either...
It doesn't suck now.
I will trade foil cards and udon art for a WELL DESIGNED AND FUN ccg any day of the week. I hope that you still keep with the game Thai as you are an awesome dude and great player, but the game as it stands right now is great outside of aesthetics. And even some of the Tekken art is pretty solid... just not all of it.
Oh, I'm not going anywhere. As displeased as I am with the artwork, I'm still playing the game strong. I don't know if it's better for me that there's ugly cards out there cause I'd be less distracted from not wanting to look at pretty cards, but it can be bad since I may overlook abilities and make more play errors... hmmm.
Anyway, I built myself a Jin deck and it's pretty fun to play with so far.

I don't run characters.
I manage to block just fine.
My point still stands.
Mm, no I know, and I do block with attacks (woot for Leg Sweep and Upper Claw), I just hate doing so because, more often than not, I needed those for next turn, and don't draw them =/.
But yeah, fun game is fun. Still not enjoying Stand Off, but whatev
This is a very interesting thread. Some people's reactions are definitely puzzling me. To each his own.
Although some complain that the game isn't the same anymore, it's completely the opposite for me. Suddenly, the game feels just like how it felt back in 2006: fresh, new. It feels even more balanced than it was in 2006! It always felt to me that 2007 and 2008 were pushing the limit way too far, creating a pretty disappointing play environment with grossly overpowered cards. Now the game is finally getting to a point where these overpowered cards are a thing of the past, where one card-multiple-combos do not exist and where control players actually need a few turns to set up their side of the board.
With foundations mostly lacking blocks, the game becomes far more strategic, although the Tekken set is making me worry since there are so many new foundations with blocks.
Time will tell how things turn out, but I am generally pleased with what I'm seeing now. Game looks fun to play again, you don't need to spend 10 million billion dollars to get the overpowered cards required to win, you have to actually think and a ton of characters now have a chance at actually winning.
I can't wait till 2010!
I personally am all right with the changes made to the game so far. Sure, I recognize the pleasent sensation of nostagia that comes from a good game of legacy, but block 4 offers a great new pace, a new feild for growth and development, build on the, not ruins, but temples of older times. Learning from the issues that brought problems into the old format, and avoiding making the same mistakes. That is not to say that those times are abandoned, or forgotten. Intead, and I am going to stop before I go too far here, we see what is behind us and keep going forwad. Kinda like camping in an RV, but still packing the tents and sleeping bags in case you want to be able to say "Oh, isn't this quaint?" Or in case you burn the microwave popcorn and need a night of fresh air. But that is off topic.

PS: I am still waiting for FFG to smell the burning popcorn that is Path of the Masters. It is the only card now that makes me wince out of shear unbalancedness. Go ahead FFG, ban it before people spend money on it. Like ripping off a band-aid. Don't wait for people to super glue it to the wound before you peel it off.
PPS: God that is too many mixed metaphors.
PPPS: Actually, they were analogies.

I don't think Christie will break the game with PotM asset. Sure.. she gets to draw.. but then what? She gets more cards.. but then what? From what I see there is no infinite loop. Just a 2 step way to get card advantage. You need PotM asset down 1st and then you need symbol abilities like the ones on her attack which are all 4DF attacks and require 6CCs to succeed and no access to cards like Communing with the Ancients.
I personally feel that Stand Off is more problematic than PotM. PotM does NOT stall the game, but rather speed it up. So.. drawn out long gray-card-playing games or fast blue-orange-card-playing games. I will choose the fast games.
BTW.. Samuel Donato, Mark Anthony Taduran, Franklin Quano and Michael Hamlett's artwork are pretty decent.. the rest's, mainly Studio Sakka Team, work are not to my taste. Sadly, Studio Sakka Team did nearly half of the artwork.
When you say pretty decent you mean you don't get a sour taste in your mouth when you see it. Then you mix those cards together with the likes of udon and IFS and realize..it doesn't even compare to the artists like Alvin Lee of Udon if you blindfolded him. ~__~

Lynn (I hope I spelled that right),
It's midnight and you're up.. lol... so am I. My wife is behind me folding clothes on the bed. What you said is true. IFS and Udon are professionals. I'm content with the artist listed above, but would love to have better. I think it's due to the work from Sakka Team that's left a bad taste in my mouth.
