Help Newbie with Regent of the Crown an Lord Commander of the Kingsguard Titles

By chrassos, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

hi,

ofcourse im new to this game. and i havent found a clear description for the use of the Regent and Lord C. Titles.

but i must say the Lord C. description seems a bit clearer after reading the new faq.

is it like that: Player A = attacker (active Player) Player B= defender Player C = Lord C.

Player A attacks/challenges Player B!

After Player B declares that he dont want to declare any defender, Player C (may) redirect the attack to himself. (not sooner, right)

the actual frameworkwindow is cancled and the previous player action window reopens.

after that.

Player A must challenge Player C! and enters the the frame action window with choosing stealth/defenders.

right so far????

but what about the Regent of the Crown ability???????????????????????????????????

does the Regent simply cancels that challenge? and the active player must/may only chooses a new Player ( but same challenge) with the same kneeling characters!!!

or may he stand the characters he was previously kneeling in order to attack with a different challenge/player ??

or do nothing with them ?

can someone explain it with the new flowchart (framworking- and playeractioning) model

thxforanswering

chris

PS: sorry for this crappy englishllorando.gif

Crown Regent: The redirect takes place "after a player initiates a challenge and declares a target and attackers." So Crown Regent redirects the challenge in the Framework Action Window for initiating a challenge/declaring attackers. Essentially, it goes:

Player A: I attack with this character against Player B.

Crown Regent: Redirect.

Player A: I mean, with this character against Player C.

It doesn't actually "cancel" anything. Think of it as the power to immediately "veto" the selection of the defending player - and the attacker must immediately choose a new defending player.

Lord Commander: The redirect takes place, as you have observed, in the framework window for assining stealth/declaring defenders. If no defenders are declared, the Lord Commander can "cancel" the assigning of stealth and essentially start the window over again with himself as the new defending player.

may i ask another question please preocupado.gif

what comes first???????????

the Redirect-Ability of the Lord Comannder or the Call for Support the defending Player????

The call for support comes first.

When a player decides to declare one of their characters as a defender in another player's challenge under the "supports" rule, it takes place as part of the "defending player kneels defending characters" event in the framework window for defending a challenge. As we discussed above, the Lord Commander kicks in to redirect when no characters are declared during that step.

So since the call for support is part of declaring defenders and the Lord Commander can only redirect when no defenders are declared, the Lord Commander must wait for both the original defender and any supporting players to decide not to oppose the challenge

nice

thanks again

1. are the abilities of Lord C. and Crown R. considered as Player Actions??

if yes so it is able to play a save/cancel response, passive abilities and responses after the abilities are initiated right?

2. if after an action is initiated and then canceled, is it possible to trigger passive abilities or resonses who refer on this action, after it was canceled???

hmmm i think no

in other words:

if an action is canceled, is the 3rd Step (Action is resolved) just skiped and steps 4-6 occur or does the Player Action Window close immediatly ???

im so curious about your answer ktom

No. The Lord Commander and Crown Regent titles do not count as player actions. These titles modify the way that the existing framework windows for declaring defenders and initiating challenges (respectively) are resolved. They happen as part of those framework windows. They do not take place in Player Action windows of their own.

Strictly speaking, they are constant effects that modify the way that the framework events in these windows are executed. As such, they cannot be canceled by things that cancel triggered effects and do not have separate passive effect/Response steps of their own. They are more like Framework Events than player actions.

If an effect is initiated in Step 1 and successfully canceled (or a target saved from a kill) in Step 2, Step 3 still happens, but the resolution of whatever was initiated in Step 1 is considered unsuccessful. Steps 4-6 also happen, but be aware of which passive effects are activated in Step 4 and which Responses are legal in Step 5. For example:

Say that I attack you. You kneel 2 Stark characters to play "Lethal Counterattack" and kill my attackers. If I don't save or cancel, we'd move on to a Step 4 and Step 5 where things that are activated/Respond to a character being killed (my attackers), characters being knelt (the ones you used to pay the cost) and events being played (your Lethal Counterattack) are dealt with.

But let's say that instead, I canceled the event or used something to save my attackers (in Step 2). We'd still go to Step 3 for your Lethal Counterattack, but would say that the resolution was unsuccessful. And we'd still go on to Steps 4-6, but this time, instead of passives/Responses for characters being killed, we'd be looking at passives/Responses to characters being saved, or events being canceled. Note that the passives to characters being knelt and events being played (your costs from initiation) are also still fair game for passives and Responses.

Hope all that made sense.

oohhhhhhhhhh mmmmmmmmmyyyyyy gooooooodddd

i understand it in the most (i hope/think i do)

i have read this thread already 5 times, think i must do it even more often until i get it in my head
