2 Questions. Crafting the Elder Sign and Opener of the Gate.

By Zadok13, in CoC Rules Discussion

1. If someone plays an event that would wound one of my characters, can I play Crafting the Elder Sign to protect them from dying? Or would I have to play Crafting the Elder sign first to gain its benefit.

2. I have opener of the Gate out, which states that all my monsters in my discard pile, deck and hand count as spells as well as monsters. I also have the attachment Execration on one of my opponents characters, which says " Response : after you play a spell card, exhaust attached character. If I play a monster from my hand does it count as a spell long enough for Execration to take effect?

Thanks in advance guys.

1) You'd be too late. Crafting is an Action speed card, so if something wounds it, it gets the wound before you can play it.

2) As you play it, you'll play a spell card. So the response triggers. While the monster is in 'being played limbo' or 'in play' it's no longer a spell, but to get there you have indeed 'played a spell card.'

Ah thank you very much. Now I have a much better understanding of how this game works.
