2nd Edition Rogue Trader out soon?

By Pallomides102, in Rogue Trader

I just hope you guys from FFG don`t come up with another edition for at least another 12 years. If and when you eventually do, do not try and sell us what you did with WHFRP 3 edition (including special dice bostezo.gif ). Dungeons and Dragons made a bad mistake with the early release of 4th edition.

Todays role players include many people who are older than 30. Many of us play Warhammer and we like to buy role playing books sometimes; just for the fluff in our armies. Most of us want well written, interesting books with unique illustrations . I personally don`t mind paying the extra dollar to pay the artists.

Just don`t try and hoodwink or bamboozel us with bubblegum teenie editions. Its the old role players who will get the young ones playing Pen & Paper again.

Other than that.

Keep up the good work

I'm pretty sure that decision is out of our hands. Besides, Dark Heresy will probably be first to get a new edition. lengua.gif

Um... 1st edition is not even officialy out in stores yet. I think your good. lengua.gif

12 years is long, even compared to D&D. AD&D (1E) was released over 3 years (77 MM, 78 PHB, 79 DMG). 2E was released in 89 (though in this case, all three were released in the same year). TSR tanked in 97 and was picked up by WotC, who worked then to produce 3E in 2000.

So, for 1E to 2E, 10 years after the core was released. For 2E to 3E, 11 years, but it was only around for that long because TSR tanked. For 3E to 4E, it was 8 years. Shorter, yes, but I don't see how it's too short. Consider that they are publishing books. And books generally don't get outdated. After all, you can still play AD&D if you had the original books. You can still play 3E. Considering what's been written for 3E, I fail to see how people are upset that WotC moved to a new edition. After all, I doubt anyone has exhausted all the available content for 3E in their own game. Couple this with the fact that 1E to 3E were essentially all the same game with the same basic mechanics (with easy conversion where it wasn't), you essentially have a game that existed from '79 to '00.

Finally, as has been mentioned, the first edition isn't out yet, so no need to worry.

I find it somewhat ludicrous that such a thread exists before the first release is even available at retailers. Is this thread supposed to be humorously ironic criticism on people who make similar threads about new editions of role-playing games?

I sure hope so. Otherwise someone is actually suggesting that "if it isn't old it isn't good" and teenagers love to get together with a bunch of 30-somethings in a basement to learn how to pretend to be an elf properly.

I would expect to see another edition in 5 or 6 years, if we're lucky.

I'll just be happy if the line is still going strong and producing material in 6 years. Not expressing doubts about FFG or DH,RT or the eventual DW, it just seems like all of my favorite RPGs are around for awhile, then they go away for one reason or another. (usually the company folding, but with FFG's diversification of game types and licenses I don't foresee them having that kind of problem)

I think it's more likely this is just another instance of the Goddamn Nerd. Every hobby has them and everyone has been one at least once in their life.

Either that or we have a troll here... again.

The first edition is not available yet. Why would you think a 2nd ed would be out anytime soon?

Looks to me like an elaborate excuse to spread the OP's complaints about WFRP 3rd Ed. into the other forums.

Perhaps, either way he's wasting our time to be brutally honest.

I'm quite sure the original poster is a troll, however I agree with him on the disturbing trend of "Japanime'ing" games to Bubblegum Crisis it up. It smacks of twinkery. I have quite a bit of experience in 30-somethings (now 40..) trying to teach teenagers how to roleplay, although I would never condone any elfishness.

They simply seem to have lost all imaginative processes. I blame World of Warcraft and the MMORPG scene for falsely presenting themselves as "RPG's" which they aren't. Everything is scripted, everything is pre-determined. Teenagers can't seem to function in a "real" PNP RPG unless you specify certain NPC's as having gold question marks over their heads. It's pathetic, really.

Frankly, I wouldn't mind against some improvement of DH.

Here's the deal, they wont touch DH cus it sells like hot cakes and you dont bugger around with a winning formula, WFRPG on the other hand is not doing as good as it was, cus lets face it a lot of us are playing DH and waiting for RT with drooling mouthes. Its just about marketing. So I good sir's declare this a troll post and will move on. Besides, have FFG not provided quality entertainment so far? I say give them a chance w 3EWFRP I'm gonna throw cash at it see what its like, if I dont like it I go back to 2nd ed.
