Brig/Detention confusion

By ninjamatic3000, in Battlestar Galactica

Can't seem to wrap my head around this for some reason.

a) Any effect that sends someone to the brig, sends them to detention instead if the target character is on New Caprica

b) Any character ability mentioning the brig instead applies to detention if the character using the ability is on NC

c) Quorum cards mentioning the brig instead apply to detention if the president is on NC

Questions:

1. Can Admiral's Quarters be used to target someone NC? If so, I'd expect that person would be sent to detention as per (a)

2. If Zarek is on Galactica, can he use his character ability to assist someone in getting out of detention? I think the answer is no.

and the one that causes me the most confusion:

3. The President is on Galactica and plays an Arrest Order, targeting Apollo, who is on NC. Is Apollo sent to detention, since he is on NC, or sent to the brig since the President is on Galactica? I think he goes to detention, since only (a) strictly applies. If the situation is reversed (President on NC, Apollo on Galactica), (a) no longer applies, but now © does, so Apollo is yanked from Galactica and dragged all the way down to NC to rot in detention? Seems counter-intuitive to me.

1. seems to work. Don't see anything contradicting that.

2. Nope. pg 14 in the Pegasus book specifically says that a character ability that applies to "Brig" only applies to "Detention" if that character is ON New Caprica.

3. Sent to the Brig. The focus seems to be who is playing their ability or card. Also on pg 14, it mentions that when the President plays a Quorum card ON New Caprica, it applies to Detention instead. I would say that it all depends on where the playing character is. It does seem a little bit clunky ruling on something like this, but it was probably they best they could do instead of reprinting everything. Shame they didn't have these mechanics already lined up so that the wording would be clear. :(

I want to agree with you but the rules say two contradicting things.

While the President is on a New Caprica location, any
Quorum Card effects that apply to the “Brig” apply to
“Detention” instead. (Note that, as stated on the new
President Title Card, when the President plays a Quorum
Card while on a New Caprica location, she rolls a die. If 3
or less, she is sent to “Detention.”)

Fair enough, meaning that while the president is not on NC the card reads as is. However:

Any effect that would send a character on a New Caprica
location to the “Brig” sends them to “Detention” instead.

This seems to say that even though the Presidents cards go back to normal the character is on NC and therefor goes to the brig. I sorta guess this because otherwise you could arrest order someone on NC and "teleport" them to the galactica brig and then have the admiral jump. This rule should be addressed but I'm going to play it like this.

I think I agree with Sorthlador based on a strict reading of the rules. Seems counter-intuitive, though, when the president is on Galactica and the target is on NC, and vice-versa.

This is my first post, but this forum has been great for helping my group out with questions and strategy.

A situation occurred in our BSG group last night that warrants a follow up question to this thread.

A human was in dentention on NC, and Galactica had just arrived in orbit with Pegasus. The President went to Galactica, and attempted to play the GET OUT OF BRIG quorum card on the human in detention.

Can this be done? Or does the prez have to be on NC to do this action?
