Full Auto and Range: Pinning and Overwatch

By revak, in Dark Heresy

Hi there!

I just realized that with Pinning and Overwatch only being able at half the weapon's range, it automatically qualifies for 'Short Range'.

Is this already figured in the modificators for Pinning and Overwatch, or does the character get that bonus stacked on top?

Is there an official ruling on that?

Thanks!

I don't see why he wouldn't get that bonus.

I'd say he would gain the additional bonus

I'd give it, let the PCs cheer, and then use it on them a session or two later.

There's two different ideas here though. One is that with overwatch and pinning, there is an effective maximum range of one half the standard range. That doesn't make it easier to hit the guy, since you're concerned with spraying the area with bullets. Thus, "short range" for Overwatch and Pinning actions would be one half of the Pinning range, which would be one quarter of the weapon's range.

The other school of thought is that this is too much math, RPG combat systems are not usually very accurate representations of combat, screw it, and just have fun and give them the +10.

I'm sort of in the second camp at this point.

One way to fix the "issue" would be to eliminate the range requirement of suppressive fire, allowing the weapon's normal range to be used for it. As someone pointed out in another thread about weapons, RL guns seems to have no problem to be used for suppressive fire at long range, going out as far as a km or more with the heavy machineguns.

Otherwise I'd say you'd get the bonus, suppressive fire as it is rarely hits at all. Pinning is the only benefit, then again it's an extremely good one.
