You didn't hear this from me

By MarcoPulleaux, in UFS General Discussion

But I herd that there's a certain site, a certain "secondary market", if you will

It got its midnight shipment of Tekken 6 early and is on display.

Remember...you didn't hear this from me.

*but seriously, Tekken comes out tomorrow. I say this becomes a pre-release thread, or a discussion of single cards*

I WANT A SORTABLE SPOILER FFG!!!!!!!!

Please. Pretty please?

Can I just say..excluding the character cards, the art looks atrocious. What the heck happened here....

Is it just me or does this set seem really really good??

I don't really like the art but that is probably just me, I prefer smooth lines and such, but the cards themselves are all solid

Now to be fair, art is in the eye of the beholder, and that, as we've seen from Udon, IFS, GlassHouse, etc etc, every artist has a different interpretation...

...but oh yeah, when you've got the #1 ranked arcade (source: Arcadia) finally coming into UFS, AND you've got the talented works of IFS and 9 Tails that you COULD have worked with...

there's no excuse. I showed my friend the work, and he's decided to start working on his UFS portfolio to try to get some good art work in.

Two things I want to address:

1. PAUL PHOENIX IS NOT BEAVIS!

2. In "The People's Hero", we see King smiling and assumedly laughing...

...KING IS WEARING A F--KING MASK. MASKS ARE NOT CAPABLE OF CHANGING SHAPE LIKE THAT!

...anyways, I'm going to compile a list and write a report =)

Compile a list you say sounds sorta like what I am doing this very instance

i dunno i like some of the artwork

So I picked a random card from the new tekken set... and a random card from Realm of Midnight.

Anyone else notice the drop off?

Sadly, nothing compares to Hidden Beastly Powers so this is an unfair comparison.

Out of all 99 cards I think there were 6 ok pieces of Art, the rest well, the art has been going down hill I feel.

Stupid new Zi Mei being ugly, me not wanting to play her, silly only wanting to play good looking characters .... *rants off into distance*

I'm not saying this is a bad thing, but do I see ZERO Astrid support? Just an observation.

Also, King can Clutch-Twist EVERY TURN with his mask. EVERY TURN (while he has no throws). Um, welcome back, days of 12 or less attacks. 4 Clutch, 4 Twist, 4 Reverse DDT. All you need.

Paul Phoenix, meet Zi Mei. You two will be nigh inseperable. Wheel Kick, Wheel Kick, Wheel Kick, PHOENIX SMASHER! +12 damage! And you have no foundations? Funny, that. Or how about Wheel Kick, Dragon Lifter into PHOENIX SMASHER!

King looks really solid off of his own support. Christie is basically Kim, just better at kicking. Paul is painful to look at in all of his cards. Mr. Rogers is solid, though I forsee a lot of his support going to Jin more often then himself.

Fire. Why, Fire, why? It, from a first once over, got really good cards. Damage bumps, super solid attacks (Did you see Blazing Fists? Thats not even the best one!)

King looks like he has some combos that will make Earth pretty soild again. Ragnar plus King support equals super happy dead 7HS characters. You don't even need the King Combo to do it.

Awesome set, though. No momentum for free, and no one character that will dominate a draft. Except for King. And Paul if he draws well.

Well, although King CAN LOLClutch-Twist every turn with his mask and no Throws, the joy is only against 7 handers, who get Thrown-down ANYWAYS. Good luck using that strategy on 3/4s of this game, with their 6 handsize and all, who are impervious to Reverse DDT's "you draw less" nonsense.

Haha, Wheel Kick Wheel Kick Phoenix Smasher. That's...one hilarious way to kill an opponent, nevermind the fact that Paul's R can tap their character, completely making their block helpless as he grunts a giant GRRRRROIIIIIIIYYYYAAAAAA in their face.

You expected Astrid support? In Tekken? King of the Iron FIST? Um...

I think King will take the pre-release.

Kazuya, as I said, relies purely on copies of himself, which are not just improbable to pull, but are threatened by anybody who pulls Nina's Sniper action (which threatens the very existence of them, anyways), or the Nina foundation that RFGs blocks. Even if a guy is lucky to pull 2-3 Kazuyas, you've got to stack them, discard cards for his E to be of use, and there aren't really enough Kazuya abilities that matter (good luck pulling multiple Kazis and his Gloves). Nina's support is interesting, some good, some bad. All in all, she's simply not as great as I hoped she'd be with such an interesting ability. Christie has the loop, but in draft, you aren't going to pull all of it, or pass all the control checks necessary, I assure you (most people will save high blocks for Samba, either way). Her F is amazing, but it's truly the only thing that'll make her of any use in pre-release, and that's saying nothing when there's Throws and damage pumps everywhere to topple her 18 vitality. Paul is 2nd best. He's great, built-in Pommel? Why not? But versus King, King has the ability to tutor throws, and a LOT of conjunction with combo throws, and ways to pump them, where as Paul, he just...

GRRRRRROOOOIIIIIIIYYYYYYYAAAAA!

Anyways, I'm gonna compile a list to write a report. As far as my wants list goes, what I find interesting is, unlike SC4 and SW, there really aren't too many "chase" cards.

I want to try building a Christie Samba Loop deck, but it's too predictable, and I'll likely go with her One with the Rhythm card, and use her off All so I can Body of Souls my kicks.

Firs of all, Paul is freaking beastly. Wheel Kicks into PHOENIX SMASHER, and what the hell, Toughest in the UNIVERSE to make sure you kill their grandchildren.

I will say though, that I'm a little disappointed that Kazuya's support features very little in the way of character stacking and his best one (Mishima Family Bloodline) only shares one symbol with Jin and himself. This kinda forces me to rethink my Kazuya/Jin deck.

On the other hand, I love combo actions! Kazuya's Combo attack is hilariously easy to pull (Play Unnatural Grace...Done!) And finally, there's a Gender Male ability!

After looking it over, I'm pretty excited for this set.

Kazyuas Combo Action just HAPPENS to match perfet with Twilight Embrace XD. Remove 4 and detstroy 3....GG?

I had seen bits and pieces of paul's stuff...there was a reason I said to get your soul stealing card ready lol.

Really digging how most of the cards I want are the c and Uc. With it being a 99 card set getting the rares and UR I want should be pretty easy. Overall looks to be a solid set and I'm quite looking forward to drafting this.

Mishima Family Blood Line.

Need to Destroy (X4 in a Legacy deck with Tiamat's Rampage, lol)

There we go. I told myself I would start on a positive note. I like the ABILITIES on those cards. That being said, I couldn't agree more with KawaiiMistress. Just looking at the art made me want to cry. With the exception of Franklin's work, almost the entire set looks horrendous. Seriously, to some people wanting to spend their hard-earned money, how a card looks matters.

Not to beat a dead horse, but this game started off with quality Alvin Lee Udon art. I was accepting of Imaginary Friends as they drew Soul Calibur stuff decent enough, and did a fine job with SNK too. But, ever since Dark Path there has been a deluge of terrible looking cards released. For as much as we want this game to survive and are trying to expand our playgroups, it seems like this facet of the game has been completely overlooked.

"Hey want to play UFS?"..."No the U stands for Universal, not ugly"..."Oh not interested, because even your high-fantasy card game that's been around for years has better looking cards that you'd rather spend your money on?"..."I'm sorry to hear that, because if you give it a chance I'm sure you'll like it."

They no longer use IFS for art since they got too expensive. They've been finding a bunch of independant artists since set 11.

Wipe the Floors wins sealed/drafts. Oh do they so well. Sworn to Protects are just sick in that format (and even constructed) as well.

Wipe the Floor pisses me off. Shockwave Palm is an ultra rare, has only 1 effect, is mid zone, and has to deal damage.

Wipe the Floor is uncommon, doesn't have to deal damage, is off-zone, and has a second (and very Shadow Banishmenty) effect. It's got a better block, even.

*sigh*

*is working on article now*

So, fun combos.

Unnatural Grace into Lightning Uppercut. Use Maniacal Laughter to give it stun and feed momentum. Then use Need to Destroy to boost the crap out of its powerful. If they're still alive, LawnChair-Breaker. Also note that every card in the card pool is an R/UR.

Jin's E applies to multiples right? If so, holy crap Blazing Punch the holy hell outta you.

Half of UR Adon has been reborn in The Entertainer. Course, King doesn't care about drawing as he tutors the crap out of his throws. That card effect can stack right?

Paul can combo so many stuns into PHOENIX SMASH its not even funny. Add a what the hell, Toughest in the UNIVERSE to kill grandchildren.

wow this is what a set is supposed to be.... balanced

the only thing that isnt balanced about it is that FIre got even more compared to some other symbols.

I think all the characters in here are playable (Nina less so)

Paul Phoenix and his support is sick!

King is freaking sweet with lots of throws and focusing on card advantage with his combos.... however his high throws sorta suck which makes his better throw combos a lil less appealing

The only thing im not too sure about is block modifiers on foundations are dropping... there are definately some +2 in there

That's the card I spent the most time staring at, with a shocked looked on my face. Why is this card ultra-rare?

On a side note, I'm trying to not be negative, but why are the cards I would actually want to play so over-costed? I would totally play Profienct Sniper, but it's Ultra-rare, has a 6 difficulty, 4 control check, no block whatsoever, AND removes itself from the game. Just to snipe one card...and even that's not guaranteed.

To be fair to the card you get to look through your opponents deck, that is a pretty big advantage in any card game, so what if magic had a better version of this card that couldn't be countered and removed playsets instead of unos, and got to look at hands, pointing that out would just be nit picking. ohh did I say it was a one cost and instant speed cause that helped too

After looking over the set I think the majority of it is quite playable, which is a very good thing.

I don't think the art is half-bad, at least in comparison to set 12, it is fairly consistent. There are some cards that are very detailed, and there are a few that are obviously lacking.

I think the rarity of cards makes sense, and I think there will be some chase cards, but obviously their number are dropping as more of the UR become character only.

There are a few cards that I want right away ^^

I would agree that King 'may'do well in pre-release, but for the fact that he really doesn't have that many throws in the set... I count 3 throws he can play, 1 UC, 1R, and 1UR. How can you collect enough to make him 'that' powerful for pre-release?

Paul will probably do the best (All and Fire both have a lot of cards in this set) mainly becuase he has the acessible damage pump and control if he needs it.

Then again, I'm thinking with the character distribution, a lot of prerelease won't pull characters (depends on size of distribution) and the Universal Fighter / Foundation will reign supreme!

ummm... Anyone know the topper and prerelease card?

Sniper lets you remove a key card from a deck. Not guaranteed? seeing the opponents character alone should make it clear what to hit. Is it Hilde? Head Shot a DW. Zhao? Twinkie Hug. Kazuya/Jin? ...Lets just say they fear the hell outta this card. Every combo card will fall victim to it. And that's not even mentioning the fact that YOU GET TO SEE HIS WHOLE DECK. Kazuya can Head Shot a card, see his opponents whole deck and then reset the board, but now he knows what his opponent will play. Not to say it doesn't have its short comings, as you pointed out and this is more of a side deck tech, but this is a powerful card.
