Question about Adeptus Mechanicus as a Chirurgeon

By GodsAlterEgo, in Dark Heresy Rules Questions

I have a group starting our first campaign and had a question about the starting Servo Skull. I see it "should" be utility, but since this character is a healer, to me the servo-skull should be Medicae. Any reason the rules would state you can not just pick "one" of the following instead of use the utility skull?

Second question, can one servo-skull get more then one "pattern" or will there be more then one? I am debating on having the character pic the optics from the class, and as for extra utility get the Medicate servo-skull.

It isn't in the hard rules, but as a GM I would have no problem at all to switch one Servo Skull to another. Nothing game breaking here, so go for it. Rules are always meant as a guideline. If you as a gm don't like something in the rules: Change it! Just remember to tell your players that you changed it. Else it may be really frustrating to them.

As for the second part of your post:
As far as I know a Servo Skull can only be one option. If you want another, you'll have to get another servo skull. There is only a certain amount of space inside a skull and that only allows for one function.

Of course there could be archeotech designs with more than one function, but these would be valued treasures with a really high availability and certainly not available for starting characters.

madMAEXX,

Thank you for the reply :)
I will do exactly that then as it seems to make more sense for me and allow for more "purpose" built characters.

If I were GMing I would probably let a character switch out the type of servo skull as well.
I'm actually playing an adeptus mechanicus chirurgeon and I just took the optical mechadendrite from background. It can be used as a microscope so makes sense. Then I used starting requisitions for a medical mechadendrite and a medikit. So that's another option. Even just rolling for a medikit after the game starts wouldn't be very hard to get and the rules benefit for the skull and the kit is the same. If your player just really likes the image of a servoskull assistant though, then I would just allow the exchange.

The listed servo-skulls are monotask servo-skulls. More capable servo-skulls are present in the fiction, if not the DH2 content, yet.
