(ANDROID) Replay value? Supplements-dependency?

By silenceindigo, in Android

Considering that Murder investigations and Detectives all come with their specific decks, making the game quite character and plot-focused, should this be seen as a sign that FFG intends this game to be especially supplement intensive?

Does ANDROID appear to have sufficient game play value for diversity with the base game as such?

There are 5 different detectives to play. Each detective plays significantly different from every other detective.

Each detective has 3 plots (except Ray, with 2). No detective sees all of his or her plots in a given game. Every plot has 4 different endings.

There are 6 different murders to investigate. Each murder has fairly game-changing rules, as in Arkham Horror.

Each murder has 3 different murder-specific events, only 1 of which gets used each game. These are usually fairly significant events. This is ignoring the
deck of 20 or so generic events that can go off each game.

If you're reasonably generous, that's 1,000s of different game setups to play. Even if you apply a more cynical view, that's still 30 unique game experiences, or between 60-120 hours of play before you start repeating anything.

Besides that, I feel that Android is fun in and of itself. Like Descent, a given murder will play out in many different ways, so even if you play the exact same setup over and over, you'll still get a different play experience each time.

We are all very excited - I know I am.

Still. It is obivous that you designed the game with expansion capabilities in mind. I assume that FFG will not plan any expansions unless the game really flies. But I also assume that, based on your experience with Arkham Horror and Doom, you already have an idea how many expansions - if at all - and which kind both Fantasy Flight Games and Android might support in the future.

Could you give us a non-binding heads up there? Pretty please?

I've read through the rules, and have to agree this screams for supplements. Not that it is dependent upon them, but it will make for a more varied play experience. I'm personally looking forward to my first play, hopefully next week.

Even now I'm quite sure, i'm hooked for future supplements.

I had posted this in the “Dirty Rundown” forum posts, just thought it was relevant here too!!!

“Another thing to think about (and here's my inner role-player coming out) is the concept of meta-plot. I love the flavor of Android's universe and with the mention of civil unrest on Mars, conspiracies that result in murder and meg-corporations playing Frankenstein, it seems to me that expansions could be used to further the story of that universe. An expansion about Martian terrorists upping the stakes by trying to blow up the Beanstalk or cases that hint at the reasons that Jenteki was involved in that string of murders, etc.

Expansions would be a great opportunity not only to add detectives, cards and cases, but to further story-lines and explore the universe.

And no matter what, as long as the game is as good as it looks, I’ll buy as many as the print!”

I'm as much the target audience for ANDROID as possible; it looks like a dream come true. My only thought went about the variety of play experience, but I guess time will tell.

I'll buy it anyway as soon as possible; the thematic and rules seem complex, but amazing. And I look forward for supplements... gui%C3%B1o.gif

I know that for my game group, a six-player expansion would be most welcome.

Agreed, this would be most welcome. Along with an official variant to play it 2-player and solo as well.

I beg for small extensions with character decks and new suplots to add to the lot... like a robot revolution for example...

I just hope these novel plot/character designs can serve as influential inspirations for future adventure game designs: VIVA LA REVOLUTION!

Solo and 2-player games will help me to play it more often

A robot revolution eh?... Perhaps they could attack the humans with poisonous gasses... then do the robo-boogey just before ripping wicked binary solo. You know, like the robot uprising of the mid 90s?

how? what? when?

ffg and supplements? never happened, never will gg

I have to wonder... back during the Jinteki ARG that led up to the Android announcement, there were mentions that they would "let us believe it was just a game," and then the other shoe would drop in (IIRC) April. In the ARG, that "other shoe" would have been the android takeover, but I wonder if it's a hint that something more for the game will be coming in the spring.

The characters make the game, so more characters would be most welcome with me and my friends. Our favorite part is building the story around what occurs in the game. As a result, we end up with multiple conspiracies regarding multiple murders. We all love being the heroes, but still at the end of the game we feel as though we are caught in the web of a hidden spider. We would love some addition to the game where we could have a feeling that we have indeed uncovered the conspiracy and brought down some corporate big wig and put him/her away for life. It wouldn't have to change the game, but it would be a wonderful feeling thematically. We are thinking about some house rule that could make a chain of games with the same group seem like one long epic investigation as to the overlying cause of the murders, while still preserving the core game itself.

All the plots, all the twilight cards, all the event cards, all the characters are just dripping with theme. It's beautiful
