I think 2 M3As would be a little light. Kath is a monster you want to keep here alive by adding blockers and defense.

There are lots of variant possibilities.
I like this list:
Kath: opportunist, K4
Palob: expert handling, ion
2x M3A or 2x Z's
Ive been running kath along side the b variant of the aggressor. I give the agressor lone wolf and the two manage to keep a pretty good distance
2 ion scyks and 1 Z could work with that Kath.

I have a similar Kath build that makes her stronger against the large ship meta in my area. Here, it's almost all 2-3 ship builds.

I have been enjoying great success with Starvipers paired with Kath. I call my list Kath's Cross:
Kath+Predator+K4 (You could also exchange Predator for Expert Handling or Lone Wolf)
2x Black Sun Enforcer+Autothrusters

I advise against a cannon on Kath. It puts too many points into a single ship. When Kath is flying with equal threats it becomes harder for your opponent to focus fire on her without serious losses.

I also run Kath the IG-88B and it has proven very powerful, against a variety of builds and I've taken 2nd in 2 tourneys with it.
