First painting attempt at Armada - TIEs and X-Wings

By ThorinXV, in Star Wars: Armada

Hi guys,

I'm a long term reader here in the community. But now Armada got me to register here. I had my first game yesterday and I'm really excited how the rules are designed. It's a nice game and I hope it will develop as well as X-Wing did/does.

One thing I was really looking for in Armada was painting the fighters. So here is my first attempt on them.

First of all we have Luke, accompanied by Biggs and Porkins:

And there is Howlrunner as well...

May the force be with you!

Love em! Great stuff

Why can you only push the "like" button once?

These are amazing!

I like the colour schemes and so I would hope people also mentioned the paints they used.

It must be nice to be really young with great eyes and have a microscope available to get your paint going.

No, really....those are extraordinary considering the size of the ships your dealing with.

Please do a tutorial. Please, I beg of ye!

Very nice work mate.

And welcome to the typing side of the community.

Thank you very much for your feedback :).

Since I have mixed some colours for the X-Wing I can give you just a rough idea of the colours I was using.

Regarding the X-Wing I didn't used a base color, since the colors stick on the plastic well. So I just washed the X-Wings with Citadel Nuln Oil and painted the cockpit with Citadel Chaos Black. The cockpit frame and the engines was done with Model Color French Mirrage Blue. The red markings were done with a 1:1 mix of Game Color Scarlett Blood and a darker red art acrylic colour of an german producer called "Hobby Line". The yellow markings were done with a 1:1:2 mix of Army Painter Skeleton Bone, Army Painter Soft Quickshade and Game Color Sun Yellow. The thin lines to define the nose and the laser tips were done with Model Color German Grey. That's it basically.

The TIE was a bit easier but even more time consuming. I started with a primer coat of Citadel Chaos Black. Afterwards I painted all grey areas with Model Color French Mirrage Blue (letting the cockpit, the round engine section and the solar panels out) and gave the "eyeball" a wash of Citadel Nuln Oil. After redoing all highlights with French Mirrage Blue. Now I gave the cockpit a short "wash" of Citadel Gloss Vanish and painted the frame with Model Color German Grey (after the gloss vanish has dried). The laser tips were done with an other art acrylic color from an german producer, but I think every shiny orange will do it as well ;). The ion engine points and the markings on Howlrunner are done with Game Color Scarlett Blood.

Hope I could help you out :).

Did you use the French Mirage Blue straight out of the bottle or did you mix it at all to adjust the color? In the pictures the color seems like a really really good match.

Thanks! The TIE-Fighter is pretty much exactly the right colour so a huge thanks for mentioning the paint! :D

Yeah, it's French Mirrage Blue straight out of the bottle. :)
