If i recall correctly there is a ship-less rough trader on port wander, the old man who could not afford to run the ship, but still could pay the docking fee and crews wages. You players could ask him to borrow his ship for a split of the profits. Then either capture a few pirate vessels or save enough PF to have a new ship built while you are out.
