Card Sleeves

By Buatha, in CoC General Discussion

So, which brand of card sleeves does everyone use? My friends are messy and I don't want chip stains on my cards.

I've tried a bunch over the years and found not a super huge difference in them above a certain point.

That being said, here are some of my opinions:

I was using Ultra Pro for awhile, but the seams split a little too much, and they come 50 to a pack, so if they split, bugger. This can happen a lot when you shuffle. Sliding em back together they can catch inside and blammo done.

After that I moved on to Dragon Sleeves. They're marginally more expensive, but I've never been happier. PLENTY of color options, and they're pretty sturdy as well. They also come 100+ to a box so you have recourse if a sleeve or two break (which hasn't happened to me yet). The box says "100", but every box I've ever opened has like 106 or so.

Here's a link to see all the colors etc and a good site for price to buy from: www.thoughthammer.com/advanced_search_result.php

(If that link doesn't work, the whole link is: http://www.thoughthammer.com/advanced_search_result.php?inc_subcat=1&keywords=dragon+shields:&categories_id=&x=0&y=0 )

Also, I haven't tried them yet, but don't forget FFG has their own sleeves now too!

I used to use UltraPro but not anymore. They come from different factories (those made in China are the worse). Often same colour was slightly different or the hologram they put on sleeves was in different places and sizes. Also the hologram often hides a relevant part of a card.

Currently I use Max Protection. No complains about them. And I like that the Clear one are less thick than similar UltraPro product. And no annoying hologram :)

dragon shields, best sleeves ive ever used. im still using the same pink sleeves i bought like 5 years ago, and ive had a red set for nearly as long too. not one has broke or split yet.

Dragonshields for sure. They quite simply last the longest and have a decent feel to em. Plus they don't have any logo stickers on the front blocking parts of the card.

Though the fantasy flight ones that had cthulhu on them had an awesome feel to it, but I haven't had them long enough to test their durability so time will tell. For now though I'd recommend them as well.

I'll add my voice to the chorus behind Dragon Shields. I've got a couple of thousand clears and almost two dozen coloured sets (with relatively few repeated colours) and have had perhaps two faulty sleeves in the lot. I bought about 60 Ultra-Pro's (two packs of 30, glittery silver) and one split within a day.

Yep, Dragon Shields here as well, though I currently have high hopes for the Fantasy Flight Supply sleeves. They have a very nice feel to them, but I've not had them long enough to truly test yet.

Okay, I bought the Dragon Shields, but **** if they aren't hard to shuffle well.

They are slippery, but try shuffling by dealing out anywhere between four and seven piles of cards, then putting them all back together and riffling just a couple of times. Rinse/repeat once or twice. Gets the deck randomised pretty well and minimises the chances of slippery card explosions. Also remember to squeeze them regularly after filling to get out the air and flatten the sleeves.

I've used Dragons and the FFG Cthulhu and they're both well made. The Dragon shields seem a little sturdier and thicker and the height of the deck seems taller with them than the FFGs. But the FFGs are very well made and easy to slide shuffle. Either way you'll be fine.

Just received the FFG sleeves and I think they are really nice.

I hadn't got difficult to shuffle, except the first time, as they were just out of the pack ! But they are beautiful AND uselfull, as I did not encounter any difficulty to split the deck /shuffle/reorganize/ swich my packs while cutting the deck in Two !!
