It's called context. This is specifically an EotE forum, which means it is populated by EotE players and fans. It would be analogous to me going to a Green Bay Packers forum and posting 'that Aaron Rodgers guy - what an overrated bum!'. It has nothing to do with being 'on topic' or 'extraneous' or not. It simply provides little/nothing to discussion. This system has been out for years and has been played by many, reviewed by many. The consensus is it's a good system, and quite good for Star Wars (compared to D20 or Saga Edition).
While he's fully entitled to whatever opinion he wishes to have, I see no purpose in the creation of this thread beyond those of the internet troll (stir up things, argue with people, etc). I don't feel the OP is going to sway any players that he is 'right' and the system is poor or whatever argument you are trying to make. (especially considering everyone who understands the initial design philosophy/time frame knows why there are no Jedi in the system, and why Force and Destiny exists).
I agree, with everything you said except the comment about this being just an EotE thread, people post here about any of the SW role playing games from FFG so they get answers faster due to the other boards not as highly traveled. There are plenty of threads on the EotE forum that are AoR and F&D.
And who cares about timing? If I just got around to reading Frank Miller's Daredevil run, then shouldn't I have the right to start a thread at a comics site titled "I just read Miller's DD ... and didn't like it" ...? I would assume, based on the critical acclaim Miller's won with that work, I'd garner a TON of arguments that Miller's DD was brilliant, but maybe a few others that found the whole thing overrated. Voila! Discussion.

If you register at a Jane Austen book club forum and start a thread with a title 'Pride and Prejudice - or just trash literature?' - i think you would get the same general response. I will agree that the time line it took him to come back put him on his heels, and he could have felt attacked as he did take a while to come back. In defense of the others that slammed him, the big break in his original post and when he did come back was typical of a troll.

Oh, I know - I was just amused by your comment. I've cross-posted a couple of times by accident, as well as not always agreed on rules interpretations, and the community has been very forgiving. This thread seems to be just a lot of noise - which is generally what trolls are looking to cause.

a whole range of personality disorders actually. Narcissism generally aligns with this kind of behaviour. I'm not so sure it's either though - I mean, there's no more than the usual geek-narcissism going on here coupled with a sense of self-importance and false authority.
Of course, from another perspective: it could be the majority group (everyone else) that is just really homogeneous, aligned in their narcissism, self-importance and false sense of authority... we can never know, because opinions is where the game's at, whereas arguments and facts are thrown out the window in favour of freedom of expression and the cult of the individual and self-entitled loons getting some perverse joy out of internet foruming.

Where have you been hanging? This is a civil forum... sure there are the odd threads that end up like this, but that's to be expected. When opinions are **** it's hard to tolerate it on the carpet, regardless if it's from a nice cow or an expensive bull, the carpet is still full of **** and some idiot brought it indoors. Wipe off your feet before you enter, it's the least one should be able to expect from civilised and intelligent people. Leave the **** outside.
Sorry, while I will always defend someone's right to an opinion, if one expresses their opinion knowing full well it's going to start controversy and an argument, then they aren't entitled to bemoan that result. He was pushing buttons and he knew it.
So by that logic, anyone with an opinion that others will disagree with should keep it to themself because otherwise they know it will start an argument and then aren't entiteld to object when people insult them? The OP didn't attack anyone but they got lots of personal abuse in return. And a lot of personal accusations as well.
Whether someone likes or dislikes a product is not grounds to attack them. Either debate or walk away, but don't pour a tonne of vitriol on them. One of my first posts in this forum was about why the rules were being split into three books instead of one rule book and then three supplements. Yes - that eternal question that every second person objects to and which provokes angry responses from some. If I had got the responses this poster had, I would have walked away from this forum and never looked back. And as I recall, I very nearly did.
In regards to his other OP assertion about having to exert effort to discover the lack of Force rules in EoE, that isn't a valid gripe or opinion, that's just a full diaper imo.
As has been pointed out several times, the overwhelming majority of SW media has Jedi in a prominent role. All previous SW RPGs have featured Jedi. Films, cartoons, books... Nothing on the book blurb says anything about not having Jedi and indeed the backcover explicitly advertises "Force Powers" as part of the game. It is ENTIRELY UNREASONABLE to repeatedly insult and attack someone for not having known the game didn't include Jedi when to most people Jedi are one of the defining characteristics of what makes Star Wars what it is. Pretty much the first thing most people will say if you ask them to describe Star Wars is Jedi or lightsabres. All this is true. The fact of the matter is a bunch of people viciously attacked someone for not liking the game and use things like this as a rationalization of that.
In fact, having seen this behaviour repeatedly on these forums, I don't really want to be part of this community myself. So to Hell with it. I'm taking a leave of absence. Happy gaming, all!

I kicked around as Bushido Brother for several months on "City of Heroes" - the only MMORPG I could stand. And even then, I lost interest around month # 4 or 5...

I never played Galaxies all that much - I think I played my 30 free days, went "Man this is crap!" and bailed. Sony occasionally sends me "Come play our games!" mail from time to time.
My first serious MMORPG was City of Heroes - a game less concerned with grinding levels as it was delivering a kick ass Superhero experience. Beyond that, I played Old Republic for 6 months - a game that had LOADS of potential and is fun as hell, but then when I had all of my character names taken away twice from server merges, I gave up. I'd play, but the free to play model is so hamstrung, I can't stand it - and there's no way I'm paying for a game that likes to screw my characters like that.
So I'm MMORPG free at the moment.
Man... I miss City of Heroes. My wife and I played for most of the time the game was live, running a roleplaying supergroup on Virtue for some time. We left a couple times, but always came back, and stayed right until NCsoft shut the servers down. We made some great friends there, many of which have stood the test of time and remain close with us today.
I lost some good names through server merges on SWTOR. I haven't played in a couple years, but I hope I haven't lost Darth Evil, wielder of the Pinksaber. *laughs*

I agree, his opinions should be respected and he should be allowed to enjoy any interpretation or part of the fictional universe he likes.
But the thing is that the OP said that anything that isn`t focusing on jedi aren`t very Star Wars. He has one view of what Star Wars is and should be about.
He has one singleminded notion of a huge mythology that means many different things to a lot of fans. Edge of the Empire is very clear on the focus and atmosphere it is going for.
The Rebel Era and its take on the Force and the few remaining jedi being mystical remnants of the past(and not an army of superheroes) is captured very well in EotE on my opinion.
The OP says it isn`t Star Wars, that is also being intolerant.
Maybe if he actually stuck around to discuss his assertions I might be inclined to give some respect. As it is he has done nothing more than toss a couple grenades into a crowded room and skulked away to watch what happens.
And WEG's game did not focus on Jedi. They had some Force powers and you could call yourself a Jedi, much like EotE and AoR. Even F&D doesn't specify Jedi although you can use it for them. Only d20 actually called them out with actual classes.
I find it difficult in this day and age to take anyone seriously who does not do their due diligence when it comes to buying something.
